On paper, the specs look great, and is a better value than other WiFi 7 routers. Plus, Asus has free protection, etc. and a good reputation. And the "expert" review (dongknowstech) said it was good.
I bought it for $183 (15% off $219 for an old router trade in, + $5 member certificate at BestBuy) and tried it for 2 weeks. It was problem after problem (disconnects, thermal errors, core spikes, unstable speed). The forums are full of frustrated users with these problems. I tried a second unit (good value, worth a shot) and had the same issues. Replaced it with another brand wifi 7 router and it has been reliable with a stronger signal (it's a TP-Link unit, not everyone may buy with the ban threats)
Here's [asus.com]10 pages of frustrated posts on one thread alone. . There are other threads
Maybe a firmware issue will fix this in the future, but it's not worth it for now. I'm hoping Asus will fix it and it'll be a good choice in the future.
Plus it has been this price for a few weeks now, so I'm guessing it'll be available at this price in the future.

Maybe I just got a defective unit, but it keeps randomly restarting. I tried updating the firmware, factory reset, etc. but the problem persists. It keeps showing "thermal_zone0" "failed to read rail 0 temperature" error codes in the log.
What's interesting is this one was replacing another model of Asus router I got about 2 weeks before that (which had defective 2.4g), which replaced my Netgear that had worked solid for 14 years, but finally started to fail.
My brother who works in tech highly recommended the Asus routers, including the first one.
So far I'm 0/2 on Asus routers.

For reference I also tried a netgear nighthawk RS600 and TPLINK BE800, the TPlink shit the bed after about a month, and netgear was pulling shady shit with requiring a paid dns service to use a vpn, so I returned that same day amazon delivered it.
The issue , for me, is that solid 6e hardware is still pretty expensive compared to 7 hardware which was being cleared out. TP-Link BE550 9300/9700 199 or 249. GE800 was below 400 for the holiday season.
Hard choice finding the best router at the moment. Either feels overpriced for dated or too likely to fail. If one has a good wifi 6 router it might be worthwhile waiting.

Understood, but the problem is the question of IN / Out. They should be the same. E.g. I am one of the lucky SOB's with 10GB WAN, then you want a 10GB Lan - you can the hit that up with a switch to other 10GB you might have. But with only the 2.5gb you basically cant use your max abilities. (and yes, I understand your going to hit other limits even if you do have 10gb internet)
Not sure if this model supports link aggregation, that can kind of work --- but its messy.
