Thanks! Rare to see wide and extra wide shoes on sale. From reading a few reviews of Saucony and the Guide 17s on Reddit, it seems like wide is barely different from normal, and extra wide is recommended for people who actually need extra space. Grabbed some in black for the listed price.

I have a pair of these and love them. The Guide are their moderate support/pronation model.

This is an interesting show for Saucony. It's basically their version of a HOKA Clifton.

I've bought 3 pairs of Guides before this one. These are my favorite by far. So comfortable.

No these are like the HOKA Arahi. Support shoes, not neutral. Cliftons are like the Saucony Rides.

The Guide 17 is marketed as a stability shoe but in actuality it's a neutral shoe. It hewa to the concept HOKA pioneered more than a decade ago coined 'Inherent Stability'. This concept utilizes a wide net base in the midsole to minimize both overpronation and supination. The midsole flares out at the medial aspect.

The difference between the Inherent Stability model and a traditional shoe is that the former can accommodate a broad cross section of runners from neutral to overpronators to supinators. By contrast, a traditional support shoe is potentially injurious to a person with neutral foot biomechanics.

I'm glad you mentioned the Arahi. HOKA's Gaviota and Arahi series both used to fall in the nebulous category of traditional stability shoe. For the first few versions of both shoes HOKA designers opted for a dual-density midsole scheme. A denser foam was used along the rear of the foot and wrapping up along the medial arch. HOKA marketing called this intervention 'J-Frame' because it resembled that letter's shape when looking at the sole of the shoe. In a recognition that the market and lab research has moved away from traditional dual density interventions HOKA switched to a single density midsole for the Arahi and Gaviota.

i made the mistake of getting a few Guide 15's back when they were $35 a year or two ago. i needed something for under-pronation or a neutral shoe. these are for over-pronation. noticed too late when i started walking crooked towards the outside of the shoe as the sole wore out faster on that side.

It's the Saucony equivalent to the Hoka Arahi. It's their standard daily stability running shoe. The Clifton's equivalent would be the Ride.

Are the days of (Guides being $45 on sale) over? Not being sarcastic, genuinely asking so I can wait
