I have one and it got a pink line down the middle of the screen. Apparently it's common and is covered under their warranty. Except I sent mine in and they refused to cover the repairs.

I would recommend avoiding this phone for that reason.

I had speaker problem with a pixel 6 I believe and id bought from bestbuy, obviously a reputable, authorized dealer. Google support acted like any purchase not from Google direct was grey market.

There is a problem with the screen on some pixel 8. The screen has a line in 2 of pixel 8. I bought 3 but sold 1 . I will send it to google for free repair. Apparently they are aware of the screen issue.

Pixel 8 is fine if you don't need/use fingerprint and live in an urban area.

Pixel 9 adds long needed rural cellular improvements (newer Samsung radio) and Satellite SOS.

Google flip flopped on that. First they said it would have Gemini. Then they said no, only Pro, after it launched.

Presumably the lawyers realized they would get sued over that pullback, so they about faced yet again, and said it would get Gemini.

What Pixel 8 *actually* got is Gemini Mini. Which is basically what Google eventually hopes to ship on lower memory (3-4GB) phones. And they're calling it Gemini.

So they turned the lack of RAM into a different beta test, rebranded to save from litigation.

This is why Pixel 9 boats always on Gemini.

I have the 6 and don't see a reason to change yet though I want too at times. I miss the finger print on the back of the phone.

Pixel 8 adds HDMI output, improved camera with vastly better video, better cellular reception (though same upgraded radio as 7/7a), lower temperature, battery protections (hold charging on Android 15), and a smaller size.

As well as Gemini Mini AI. And much longer OS support cycle, two years longer than Pixel 6.

The only drawback is a slight charge speed reduction with Pixel Stand 2. 18W vs 21W. This is likely to improve longevity when regularly charged with Stand 2. Though Pixel 8 benefits from 15W on Qi Fast, whereas Pixel 6 is at 12W.

All phone makers initially deny for a vertical line, because dropping the phone is the most common culprit.

Though it may be considered apples and oranges as it requires buying service, plus the phone is locked until 60 days of service are up, but the Mint mobile deal for the Pixel 9 is effectively $399 also.... with an extra $180 for 1 year of unlimited service ($15/month). If you already use Mint mobile, can get the Pixel 9 for $399 straight up.. (or 9 pro XL for $879 ($699 + $180).

Mine has the pink line, just happened last month after I'd had it about a year. Haven't tried to get it repaired yet. Must be extra-common since pink-line Pixel 8s are all over eBay.
