Because it's the year of the snake and Uranus is in retrograde, providing amd chips more horsepower and torque over intel chips. Let me know if you need further info. I've built a few pc's back when I was younger so I'm an expert.
Because AMD doesn't require you to replace your MB every other year, just 'cause you wanna replace your CPU.
Wish they would bring back the 425 7800X3D combo lol I know it will never happen again

Have a 9800X3D bundle coming in for $690 and am considering returning it for this one. I do game but it's going to be in 4K. 12 cores vs 8 cores won't make much of a difference productivity wise for me, but I don't think I'd see much gaining difference either.

I probably will pair with a 5080S or 5090S when they come in stock

I want the 9950X bundle so bad, but I already have a spare 5950X on hand that I've been meaning to build a cheap gaming PC with.

Sell the 5950x on eBay for around 300. I just did this to upgrade to a 9800x3d build.

The reality is, a better CPU isn't going to significantly improve my gaming performance in any meaningful way (unless you're playing Jedi Survivor, which is horribly optimized and severely CPU-bottlenecked in some parts).

Absolutely not.

The 7800X3D is inferior to the 9900X in every other way except for high refresh rate 1080P gaming.

I would only spend the extra $100 on the inferior CPU if I were a competitive gamer.

"Competitive gamer" seems to be a pretty loose term. It seems like everybody is a competitive gamer nowadays, even if they make zero money off of it, don't participate in any tournaments, etc.

Not to mention the fact that the difference between 400 fps and 480 fps isn't going to make you a better player. Just stating facts.

I will put in here that I have seen both sides of this argument: on the one hand, you often end up buying a new motherboard *anyway* when you get a new CPU (e.g. if you pass the old one down to a child or a friend). On the other hand, getting a relatively late-model *motherboard * paired with a low-end CPU set you up for upgrades later, but only if you buy AMD (Intel barely even keep compatibility 2 years in a row, and by the time you're ready to upgrade, compatible Intel CPUs will be almost impossible to find; ask me how I know…)

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap the motherboard with a microATX board (i'm guessing it would have to be done in-store)? I only have mATX cases :/

Just to weigh in with a counterpoint that its not just high refresh 1080p gaming workloads that benefit significantly- MMORPG gamers are almost always CPU bound. The x3d processors are amazing for MMORPGs - often 2x to 3x the FPS for that type of gaming.

I snagged this deal. I was originally going to go with the 9700X Bundle, but I decided to go with a more expensive bundle to future proof the mobo. The Gigabyte B650 has PCIe 5.0 for ssds only, not GPUs. Totally fine for almost all GPUs out now but if I want to upgrade later I don't want to be limited in what I can buy by my board.

Decided to get the 9900X bundle with the MSI X670E, and was tempted to FUTURE PROOF EVEN MORE with the X870E but I'm already spending a lot of money.
Out of curiosity, with you future proofing, how long did your last mobo/cpu/ram last?

5 years, I got it right at the start of the pandemic. Which is also when I got the 3070 that I want to upgrade in the next year or two

I am surprised that the AM4 platform is still going strong.

Yes, GPU vram is the primary limiting factor for LLMs, so you def want the 16GB vram 4060 TI or 4070 TI Super if you can find one cheap. Any of these CPUs will do just fine.

Might want to look at used 3090s as well for 24gb vram. More vram = better LLM potential.

I'm in need of upgrading my aging, LGA 1150 i5-4690k desktop since Windows 10 is going to be retiring soon; what would be the best value/match for the following that I think are still usable: Case: Fractal Design Focus GPSU: Antec Earthwatts Gold ProGPU: Zotec RTX 2060 12GB twin fan Storage: 2x SATA SSDs (which prob "slow" relative to a lot of modern m.2 but fast enough for me) I don't do much PC gaming but do like to have something capable for some of the major releases (still fire up games dating back as far as Half-Life to Witcher 3 from time to time). Or would I be better off waiting...? I don't plan to re-built until summer so not sure if it's better I wait (don't know if summer prices would be better vs worse than winter prices).
If your a system builder, you should deactivate the Win 10 license on the old pc and reinstall on this equipment. Next, upgrade to Win11 with the TPM bypass

Didn't know they allow returns on bundled items and let you keep the discounted price?! At least it said they don't let you keep the bundle discount if any part is returned in the fine print of the bundle deal I purchased a few months ago. YMMV I guess.
Same! I was categorically told they wouldn't take partial returns.
