Don't forget to save 20% by trading in an old product. I traded in an old cheap fire stick for my paperwhite last year.

Does it matter which fire stick you choose on the list of eligible trade ins? I have a fire stick from 2015

FYI, you can't download and transfer books via USB on these.

May I ask why? I have a 2015 Paperwhite and I recently bought a 2022 Scribe. I can transfer books over USB on both of those. I'm genuinely curious what makes the new Paperwhite different?

Probably nothing major for Kindle but might be worth waiting to be sure.

Wow, I didn't know the new ones were any different. I did some googling and it seems like it can still work using MTP, but MTP isn't quite as reliable as a standard USB drive. This is all just based on reading posts, do you believe this is not the case?

That should work just fine as a trade in. I have traded in old stuff to amazon on several occasions.

I bought the 2024 version and the choice to download and transfer on your content page is just not there. I searched and found a Reddit thread that said with the 24 version you can't do it. I returned it and bought a refurb 2022 version and the capability is there. I don't know why they took it away, they did the same thing for Kindle Unlimited. You can only get those books over the wifi.

I'm unfamiliar with MTP, so it may work. I don't know.

Are you sure? Don't you just need to download the transfer to kindle app?

I don't know, but here is the Reddit thread I referenced:

Of note, one guy says this: "Will likely be entirely discontinued for all Kindle devices."

I hope this isn't true, it takes me a long time to read library books.

You can. I have this version and it took a bit to figure out. I had to install android file transfer for my MacBook and it finally registered to work on calibre.

Definitely not as easy as plug and play in the older versions.

Did they block this on a recent update? I have a 12th gen 2024 paperwhite and I transferred books to it via USB just fine. BTW I use the Calibre app to do the transfer.

Mine was several years old. I just traded in the oldest one on the list, as they offered me $5 for any of them. It was more about the 20% off but 5 bucks on an old unused cheap device was cool too.

Black Friday deal was $130, so not bad, but not amazing, either.

Refurbs (these Paperwhites change little generation to generation) have been as low as $70. I see people in FB Marketplace selling them around $50 all the time, too.
