No clue if the drives are CMR, SMR or whatever. They work for me. I keep redundant backups. I wouldn't trust these or any drives without at least one other backup of the data somewhere. All drives fail sooner or later.

I wrote the developer and basically told me software will not be able to tell you CMR or SMR.
We wont know until Seagate posts the specs.
I would hope they are 28-30TB HAMR drives with disabled platters and sectors that are bad.
no one can be sure , even WD did this when they made wd reds , as some more SMR.
i dont trust any seagate with a barracuda label.
WD will also be using the same HAMR tech soon but as far as i know all externals hdds from 8TB to 22TB are enterprise grade like the exos.
Seagate 8TB was SMR, and a barracuda , 10TB to 18TB were exo's and last year 20TB was exo but now have been swapped out. I bet serverpartsdeals in florida are selling those as refurbs now. I own about 6k dollars worth of seagate 18TB exo refurbs , havent had one die , they had a 2 year warranty. also seagate 22 to 24TB are exos , i own both and have shucked them
I also own a synology 2 bay drive and i only use it for photo backups, data sharing and other things, nothing major and i would say they are suitable for synology SHR , but not real RAID or ZFS true nas. I am sure you could get away with it. just not for me. I run all WD and EXO X18 drives in my 24 bay true nas. raid z2 ,4 vdevs, 256GB ram epyc.
Not sure how these would handle a rebuild one day, lets say this barracuda dies and then i have one drive left to die during a rebuilt , if that one dies i lose all my data.
I want to know official specs , an enterprise drive is rated for 550TB a year. After 3-4 years of power on i would be nervous of a barracuda.
I guess unraid would be suitable since its not real raid, just make sure you have a program to do smart tests , i use scrutiny docker.

It's not worth the risk. Don't buy SMR drives. It will 100% affect your bandwidth and slow your machine down.

This comes brand spanking new with 1yr warranty.
You buy a beat up 5 yr old drive from one of the refurbishers and comes with 3-5 yrs.
Just lets me wonder how much faith have we lost in the retail type of drives...

The tell-tale is the laser certification label.
This video talks about HAMR (and other tech news.), starting at 20-second mark.
