Have one of these and I would not put a plant on top like shown in the picture.

I wouldn't put anything other than shoes on it if that's what you're getting at. It's not for storing anything heavier than a pair of high tops.

Just based on the number of up votes, I think people are not realizing that the racks are shown to be only two pairs of shoes wide.

I think if you need an extra tall shoe rack, you're probably looking for something more than two pairs of shoes per shelf. It's not even 17 inches wide and when you subtract the width of the posts that probably leaves you about 15 inches of width per shelf. Hey, maybe that's perfect for you, but I would be bummed if I assumed I was gonna fit four or five pairs on a shelf and this is what I got. When stuff is under 10 bucks people throw caution to the wind and then when they get burned, it's not worth their time to drive it back to the UPS store.
