The Mx4200 has the best radios and processor out of these. It is also supported by OpenWRT.
The stock firmware has not been updated for years and is pretty limited. To bypass it asking you to use the app rather than the web interface, when you go to the router's web interface click on the picture of the phone on the nag screen. Then you'll get a login in screen. After you login you can set stuff up. Clicking on CA in the bottom links gives you more settings.
Each node is model MX4200. Combine two nodes in the same box and Linksys calls it MX8400. A three node SKU also exists which Linksys sells as the MX12600. Stupid and confusing? Yes, but that's what Linksys went with.
Hmm, I'd say reuse is the opposite of waste.

Bought a pair of the MX4200 (MX8400). Don't believe they've been less although the LN1301 was $15 a few months ago. Any opinions on sticking with the MX4200 at $10 per node vs holding out for for the LN1301 to hit $15 again?

Which of these WiFi routers would you recommend? I need a new one as my old one just stopped working. Seems like so far consensus is to buy the mx8400? Is mesh router better than regular WiFi router? Apologies in advance for stupid questions

Awesome, I got mx4200 as an extension to my mx5300.
Based on the Linksys website this should be compatible.

Yeah, that's what these all do. Except the range extender.

For an apartment, you probably don't need the range of the mesh system. The ax3200 would probably work for you.

When you use the web interface, you typically connect directly to the router and don't need to jump out to the Internet to connect. When you use an app, you typically are using some server in the cloud as an intermediary between your device and the router, which means if the Internet is inaccessible or the server is down for any reason, you can't configure the router.

Has anyone figured out the specific model number of the AC1200 router? I can't tell if it supports openwrt or not

If I buy 2 sets, 4 total, can I use these basically as 1 is tge router and tge other 3 as extenders? I'm aware I'm probably not using the correct terminology
