It's helpful for privacy, but we aren't doing anything major when traveling typically. What's really nice is the on-the-go ad blocking through Pi-Hole no matter where we are or what device is connected. And it's using the ad blocking lists I have curated over the years for our Pi-Hole, so it beats just trying to use a separate service/addon on each device we take with us.
They have definitely come a long way on the firmware stability and passing along captive portals.

For personal travel, I just use an old Android phone for Wifi-Sharing if available or Mobile Hotspot for mobile data. Then, have the end devices themselves connect to VPN.
It's helpful for privacy, but we aren't doing anything major when traveling typically. What's really nice is the on-the-go ad blocking through Pi-Hole no matter where we are or what device is connected. And it's using the ad blocking lists I have curated over the years for our Pi-Hole, so it beats just trying to use a separate service/addon on each device we take with us.

I also use this hooked up to my Ubiquiti (Unifi) UDM-SE as a failover. If my main internet goes down, all I have to do is open Personal Hotspot on my iPhone, the Beryl connects to it within a minute, then feeds the UDM-SE. Saves having to reconnect a few streaming devices around the house for a few minutes to a few hours for the outage. Has been working great!
