MIne has an extremely backward one and as you can see below other problems. I'm staying as far away as I can and it puzzles me how people are saying to go to the states or feds sites to feel safer come to that conclusion.Maybe you live in decent state that is run well but a at the federal and many state levels things are really backward..They still run Cobol and floppy disks at the IRS. The fed Direct File system only takes the most basic returns.Maryland comptroller blames printing malfunction for sensitive data sent to wrong addresseshttps://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore...sensitive/Marylanders report receiving 1099s belonging to someone elsehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B...bzKpplul2k
Sorry for MD not being able to do better. I live in your northern neighbor state. Our myPATH is very easy to use and less an hour to file. Therefore, I never paid for state filing after I moved in from swamp state.

A number of people have been saying that this is only a small price increase. $22.50 is a 50% price jump for compared to last year, at least for me. I checked my receipts, here are the prices, not including tax, that I paid for tax software for the last 18 years. They are not necessarily the best price of the year. Unless notes, this was the H&R Block Deluxe+state

Nothing for you to be sorry about but I do envy you. My fellow citizens are strictly to blame. In town they accept 80% of school students not able to read at a cost of $21,606 per year per student. The swamp is very deep in other words.

It is terribly sad as it was once a beautiful and beautifully managed state but those days are long gone.

I'm sorry so many are fleeing here, pushing up into your state and gobbling up up the beautiful wild, rural and farm lands.

Kind of clownish. Compare prior years, we've seen $18 or cheaper by this time (multiple times). You are waiting a month to get your refund because you THINK you'll save $2.50. Just not worth it.
If you're waiting on a big refund you might want to rework your W4 so that you're not giving Uncle Sam your money for a year

I agree and they do that on purpose. Not a good thing to hand someone else your money you can earn income on or use. It is also an intentional psychological trick and scam. They get the silly, false and deceptive idea that you get something back in people's heads.

I go bonkers when I hear people excitedly tell how they got something " back" when in fact it is a big negative to them.

It also puts a drunken sailor mindset in many people and they reason that the money somehow came free to them and is a bonus. I know many that just blow it like it is nothing on some frivolity or luxury and most of those that do can little afford it.

Child tax credits refunds have the overdose rates go up as it is now party time with money gotten "back". Others go on cruises or to Disneyland which again has the tax man getting more of their wealth. I guess the second better than the first with tax money going to OD people and ultimately to the cartels but both hurt not very wise people that can least afford it.

I know I missed out in past years when I filed early during COVID—if I had waited, I would have qualified for the relief check Trump issued. I don't think it matters now with Elmo, but who knows.

Don't want to risk hijacking this thread to discuss this topic, but this is not true. Filing early did not impact whether you qualified for the Covid relief checks. But in any case if somehow you didn't get this payment, the deadline for filing a amended return for the 2020 year to receive the first Covid relief credit expired May 17, 2024.

It did in the sense if you made X amount of money on a specific cutoff date on when you filed, you may have not qualified or reduced benefits. Typically salaries raise over time so this screwed anyone who had jump in pay and filed early.

just go with cash app its free

the reason we have to do our own taxes in the first place is we are paying these companies money they are using to lobby politicians so we have to do it in the first place.

The irs knows exactly how much we should get back there is no reason we should be doing taxes. This is all profit for the company. if we lived in Europe no one does their taxes.

I got this error from cashapp when I tried logging in today...doh!

Why are these $cumbags asking for my activation code and email address just for downloading the software after the purchase?
