Do I need a balancer with 4x in series for a 48v golf cart application? Also will the sla charger work on this (albeit less optimal)?

This is their newer BT and low temp 12v 100ah.
I have tons of their older kind and they all tested to the rated capacity.

If you're gonna parallel these to your other batteries, then you're fine.

I have one of these hooked up to my EF ECOFLOW Portable Power Station Delta 2 using the solar gen charging port. It doubles the capacity on my Ecoflow. It works well as a UPS

So you have a separate charge controller to the battery and then from battery to one of the solar inputs?

i bought an 20 amp Haisoto battery charger on Amazon and like it. It has a switch to select battery type and amperage (5/10/20). Be sure to get a charger specifically designed for LifePo4/ LFP batteries. The Haisoto charger has settings for Lithium/Gel/Lead acid. hope this helps.
