N97 the better processor/graphics than N150, but I recall someone saying there was a tradeoff with the GMKtec N97 NUC in the other thread...I think that the SSD interface is SATA instead of NVMe?
n97 has double the power draw (12W vs 6W)

Is the ram and ssd expandable?
Just watched vid on YT. The 2nd m.2 slot is 2242 type, so basically worthless unless you have one from an old laptop. There are some of those SSDs available on Amazon, but they're expensive for the space.

There is only one RAM slot, so you have to replace the factory RAM. It's NOT dual channel.

These processors don't support dual channel memory anyways.

IMO this is screaming to be a Home Assistant box - cheaper and more powerful than a Raspberry Pi build once you factor in case, power supply, storage, etc. that a Raspberry Pi build would require.

Low power, good looking enough to sit on/in an entertainment center, etc. So tempted but I already have HA running on an ANCIENT low power mini-ITX board with a 9W SOC AMD E1-2100 mobile processor, and it is running just fine.

2TB for $179 isn't horrible.

Okay, I'll admit to "being concerned".It's very weird that this company releases all their drivers only on Google Drive. Only as a zip. And that the zip file is nearly 1GiB for what should only be ~50MiB of drivers. What's the other 800MiB of stuff? Anyway, why would I, after a fresh install, go out of my way to add extra unneeded junk back to the machine when you can get all of the drivers directly from the hardware manufacturer? Even if I did trust them (which I have no reason to, which to be fair, I don't really trust any company).
Yeah, I wiped the drive and installed ubuntu and all the hardware was detected by default just fine.

I purchased one today for Proxmox VE that is currently running on a very old laptop. Currently only using one Windows 10 VM for a document scanner (nigh impossible to get running in linux) and a few containers which I'll migrate over.

Proxmox VE helper scripts for those interested:

Thanks!

This is a good deal for this particular product.
I'm waiting for a solution that fits these criteria (Beelink, if you're listening...)
  • Built-in PSU (no external AC adapters, reduces clutter)
  • N150 CPU
  • 16GB DDR5 memory (DDR4 is a legacy product at this point)

you can get a ryzen 7 mini pc for twice the price with at least 3x the performance cpu with H/HS designation. hard to know how much work cpu your dad needs but you just need to compare his current cpu benchmark with the n150 and you will have a pretty good idea.
