the 16GB/512GB version is $35 more after coupon, anybody think this will drop further to $150 or lower? the current price seems decent but ram prices are fairly cheap now, with 16GB going for just $25 (the added storage isn't necessary for me). it sucks that amazon won't price match drops during the return period.

Are these good for home work computers. Looking for a replacement PC for my dad.
No, these are appliances like a htpc/server.

Get one with a real processor not n100/150 based for desktop use.

You want a ryzen or core i, the n1x0 gets its head slammed against the wall once something like windows update starts running in the background.

IMO this is screaming to be a Home Assistant box - cheaper and more powerful than a Raspberry Pi build once you factor in case, power supply, storage, etc. that a Raspberry Pi build would require.

Low power, good looking enough to sit on/in an entertainment center, etc. So tempted but I already have HA running on an ANCIENT low power mini-ITX board with a 9W SOC AMD E1-2100 mobile processor, and it is running just fine.

That is what I am using the original N100 for. I got the N150 version as well as a backup device in case the other fails. (I use the N150 for some other tasks as well.) Can just easily swap over the nvme drive and back online.

I picked one up to set up Home Assistant at my daughter's house. I'll grab an NVME enclosure and burn the HAOS to it. Boot up on her network connected to an IoT VLAN I'm setting up and should be all set. This will sit in her entertainment center, nice innocuous size, and good looking to boot.

Great video here on setting up backups on Google Drive:

The CPU is ok. Overclock it from 3.6ghz to 3.7ghz for a nice boost. Get 16gb or higher ram config.

If it can't handle a Windows update how can it handle Plex transcoding like some have said?

Oh, that's the one strong part of n100, it has a modern video processing block, so its all offloaded from the weak cpu.

Intel's always had a good transcode gpu, but its a fragile solution.

Overclocking a low power processor kind of defeating the point, the 4 cores are just weak without the Performance core real intel processors have, you don't fit 4 ecores into one pcore of space without losing a lot.

Spot on with this. In lower end systems the difference between DDR4 and DDR5 becomes more noticeable. Especially considering the N150/100 is limited to single channel
The n150 I purchased with ddr5 is still slower than the n100s with ddr5 in all benchmarks.
This may be due to it being m gmktec and comparisons to possibly higher quality and more expensive alternatives.
It also runs a little hotter than n100s thus not sure what the point is of update.

I was joking! That's why I wrote the 0.1Ghz overclock. It's about how people used to overclock by small amounts for speed

Currently back to regular $199.99 price. Interestingly, at full price, Amazon can have it to me by Saturday, versus the one I ordered at the sale price which is showing a late February/early March delivery.

this is a good deal for this particular product.
i'm waiting for a solution that fits these criteria (beelink, if you're listening...)
  • built-in psu (no external ac adapters, reduces clutter)
  • n150 cpu
  • 16gb ddr5 memory (ddr4 is a legacy product at this point)
+ hdmi 2.1
