This seems like a great price. I went with the Panasonic due to the reports of discs skipping and freezing with the Sony models. The Panasonics range from $150-$400 for the good and better versions (UB420, UB450, and UB820).

They have some pre-loaded apps, but they are pretty limited. I don't know why Sony does not have their ecosystem with appstore even though they have one with PlayStation media.

A Bluray player without streaming apps is pretty much useless....
You might be in the minority.
I think most people interested in a 4k UHD Blu Ray player find the included streaming apps useless!

My 4K TV can stream, my Android box can stream, my game consoles and PCs can stream and all those things are already connected to the TV so why in the world would I need yet another thing that streams....... I got my Bluray player to play Bluray discs.

Better quality, better upscaling(BR/DVD), supports DV on disc, supports SACD/DVD-A.

I've had this player for a few years. I paid about the same for it then and I've been satisfied with it. The only annoying thing is you have to go in the settings and toggle Dolby Vision off and on depending on the disc.

The only apps available on it are Prime Video, YouTube, YouTube Kids, Spotify, Netflix, Tubi, Pandora, Fandango at Home, Slacker Radio, and Berliner Philharmoniker. I wouldn't recommend using it to stream though (it's pretty slow navigating and getting it started).

What happens if you don't toggle DV? Shouldn't have to toggle anything per disc; should be absolutely simple for the non-techies in the house.

If you leave Dolby Vision on for a disc that doesn't offer it, the colors appear off. In my experience, maybe a reddish/pink tone? Nothing completely unwatchable, but definitely noticeable, imo. I agree, it should be automatic, but for the price I can't complain.

As a former Sony fanboy, I came to realize Sony does great work overall, but there is ALWAYS some little corner unnecessarily cut that is chronically annoying. Having to manually check for Dolby Vision and change a setting, lest a slight but noticeable flaw occur, would drive me nuts.

I was about to order this; glad you mentioned it. My Xbox S died; will get the X now as it's the same price as a sane 4K disc player and an S.
