I think you're better off buying an enclosure and putting a reputable SSD in it

Made in China just like 30~% of all goods manufactured in the world. You realize China has already surpassed the US in manufacturing capabilities right? Assuming something is low quality just because it's made in China is hilariously ignorant.
Something that is meant to be cheap, made with cheap materials, is going to be cheap and low quality no matter where it's made in the world.

Why not just get a cheaper 1TB internal ssd and a cheap $15 enclosure?

If you want portable, get this instead. No need for a cable, though I wish it was USB-C:

2.5" SSD enclosure - $10
https://a.co/d/21PUMLF

1tb 2.5" SSD - $45
https://a.co/d/bceMlZs

Total: $55

Not the fastest SSD, but no USB 3 or USB c cable will match SSD speeds. Not a top brand, but neither is the deal

Everyone keeps forgetting that this site is all about slick deals. No-name item from Chinese seller on amazon is not slick at all, no matter how much chine is ahead of us in manufacturing. Crap is crap, especially if sold on amazon nowadays.

If you are into this junk, just type in "1TB external ssd" on amazon, use filter to limit the price to $60 and you will get yourself tons of no-name crap from Chinese honest sellers.
Why bother with amazon then, head to aliexpress 1TB ssd can be had for $8

LOL, some of you are comparing a 3.94"L x 2.76"W SSD and enclosure to a minimal sized mobile drive.
Not a legit comparison.
