If you're on a tight budget yes. But if you can spare an additional $90 then I'd get the 7700X bundle. Comes with 32GB of DDR5 and the AM5 platform is more future proof and has an upgrade path since AMD is expected to release Zen 6 on it.
would be a major upgrade for you. 12th gen is where they put out a new processor architecture, then broke it in 13th and 14th gen.

Roughly 3x the performance of your 8700.

All that said. This isnt the best of microcenter bundled in my opinion.

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ild-bundle is slightly weaker, but isnt end of life in memory and socket
Nobody and I mean nobody ever really upgrades their CPU on same platform like 1%. They run the platform and setup they have until they get tired of it and upgrade to the whatever platform appeals at the time. People need to get off the dead socket bandwagon. The only time it's a dead socket is if Windows says so and then you might have an argument.

12700K is already an overkill for 6650XT. If you plan to keep this GPU than there is no much sense to spend more on CPU.
If you plan to upgrade GPU than it depends...

Got this CPU with DDR5/mobo for $350 almost two years ago from microcenter. Mediocre price.

This is a great deal. Running 12th gen i5 paired 4070TI Super and nothing it can't handle well. I7 at this price is good but I would add another 16 GB kit.

It's good but it has hit this price point quite a number of times.

It's a great deal. But starting to wonder if the 7600X bundle for $299 or the 9600X bundle for $329 is a better deal.

I'm not an AMD fanboy. But both of those are newer (especially the 9600X) and support DDR5.

That being said, I'm not in the mood to buy new RAM either...

I could see them adding the B580 to this deal like they did the 12600K/A770 deal last year that went for $500

Pure CPU performance wise don't think you can beat this for the price. I ended up going with an i5-14400 setup for business client for $30 more just because I really needed MATX size stuff and the i5 came with a heatsink but benchmarks are about 25% less.

I would like the AMD bundle better just because of future CPU support. This Intel bundle you would max out at 14th gen, and this bundle is ddr4 which is cheaper. But you get hit with a 10% performance reduction using ddr4 vs ddr5. I wish I had a micro center close to me.

if you're keeping that video card probably not.

I upgraded from a 8700k to 9700 non-k then this, with a decently overclocked 2060 12gb.
No perceivable difference other than having $300 less dollars.

I think the RAM in the bundle is an issue:
- 16GB of ram is probably borderline enough for gaming, you'll be looking to add more in the near future.
- performance penalty? not sure how much handicap you'll get running this at 3200 cl16, you probably need to look that up. I run mine with 4400 cl16 and the benches were on par with ddr5 variants.

not bad, but theres greater value and similar pricing for the 7600X bundle. DDR5-600" and socket that isnt EOL is quite nice for only a few more bucks, but thats just my opinion.
