Great deal! Have been using mine for a couple year now and they are wonderful. Noise cancellation is really good and the battery life is amazing. I can go from morning to night on a full charge easy, with noise cancellation on. Head and ear pads are comfortable. Build feels solid.

Between this or the XM5's, I'd get these. I looked at getting XM5's a while back and I don't remember the specifics but I do remember reading they weren't as good.

As a side note for those wondering about XM6's. There has been zero word on a release or that that are even making them. I'm sure they are but it has been complete dead air and only speculation.
The lowest was actual $101 but it didn't last very long. Both of those are refurb prices though.

In terms of active noise cancelling, the ULT WEAR performed better better at cancelling background chatter, so it sounds quieter in the following recording. And part of the reason is the ULT WEAR's more effective damping without noise canceling. So when ANC kicks in it's got less residual noise to deal with. However, when listening closely with headphones, the XM4s performed slightly better in terms of reducing low frequency rumble. Listen to the ANC samples.

...the XM4 headphones are Hi-Res certified, so there's more headroom for lossless listening. They have a more advanced audio upscaler called DSEE Extreme, whereas the ULT WEAR only has the basic version. Also, XM4 can maintain LDAC codec streaming while in multipoint mode, whereas the ULT WEAR cannot.

The XM4s have Speak to Chat, which auto detects your voice and activates transparency mode automatically. XM4's build quality also feels more premium.
I'd personally go with the XM4s. The ULTs seem like a deliberate compromise, even if they are newer.

XM5s are better overall as a noise cancelling set. The microphones in particular are better, so for meetings and such they are the pick. Some folks do prefer the sound of the xm4s over the xm5s, but don't think you can go wrong with either honestly. If you don't use them for talking in noisy environments, the xm4s are cheaper and very good.

Excellent noise cancelation, comfortable, good bass, mediocre sound quality, mediocre control scheme, mediocre connection reliability and ease of connection. Very lightweight compared to others.

I sold mine since I expect large headphones like this to have superior sound quality, and while this one is OK, it's quite a bit below AirPods Max, Bowers and Wilkins PX7 S2, or Sennheiser Momentum 4.

I believe the XM4s have 5mm larger drivers than the XM5s.

Sharing my experience for those deciding between the Sony XM4 and XM5 headphones.

I originally had the XM5s but lost them. When replacing them, I chose the XM4s based on many online opinions (Reddit, forums, etc.) that suggested they were the better overall option. The common consensus was:
• XM5s have slightly better noise cancellation
• people preferred XM4s for their foldable design, better comfort, and overall sound profile
• mic quality was noted as a potential downside on many of the long reviews (e.g., RTings) though not as widely discussed on forums so I appreciate this comment mentioning it!

My experience:

I went to Best Buy to try them before purchasing at a discount online. They seemed good in the store. It validated my decision. After using the XM4s, I totally regret the decision. While I LOVE that they fold, that's about it.
• Sound quality feels noticeably worse than the XM5s ☹️
• Not impressed overall, despite the strong recs

Now, I'm looking for headphones that offer XM5-level noise cancellation, sound, and mic quality but still folds. That really is a game changer. Bose QC Ultra might be an option, but they're expensive.

Just wanted to share my perspective. Many people love the XM4s, but they're not for me.

I have the XM4, and it's a good deal! But, the microphone quality is a bit lacking. Even the cheapest headset I've had had a better mic. But if you're looking for ANC, this is definitely the one to go for.

It's ridiculous that you were down voted for this comment. The objective audio-metric measurements taken by Amir at AudioScienceReview, Soundguys, and Rtings are all in agreement that the WH-XM4 deviates from neutral sound curves.

The measurements Soundguys conducted on their B&K High-frequency Head and Torso Simulator (HF-HATS) exhibit a V-shaped character. Rtings uses the same B&K HF-HATS and their test found that compared to their target curve the XM4 sound was boosted by 7.4db at 125Hz and also exhibited a 6db dip in the midrange at 2.2kHz. Amir's measurements exhibited the same boosted lower end and the dip between 2-3kHz.

I guess for people that enjoy a bassy V-shaped sound, the WH-1000XM4 will suit their needs. Otherwise these headphones have to be EQ'd.
