I use the dot email trick and have had 4 memberships so far…so if your email is [email protected] for the next time just use [email protected] and the 3rd time [email protected] etc etc basically any combination of periods will make Sam's club (and most places) believe its a different email address, but the email still goes to your normal gmail
I have been 'renewing' Sam's club membership every year for $20 (or lower in the past. This year we moved to a city with Costco so I got Costco membership and let Sam's Club membership expire. After a few trips to Costco, I bought Sam's Club again.

Costco is just too crowded for comfort. First parking is a pain and then you have to navigate your cart through hordes. And then finally check out lines are huge. It's just crazy. Sam's club has fewer people and so shopping is MUCH faster. And scan and go is awesome. My wife just refuses to step into Costco now. We figured $20 extra per year for Sam's Club is worth the peace of mind.

We'll probably still keep Costco. $60 is a lot but even one big ticket item a year makes up for it. So we'll keep Costco for major purchases and online ordering. Overall 'deals' are definitely better at Costco. But we'll use Sam's club for regular weekend groceries. Like I said, $20 extra just to avoid the crazy Costco rush is worth it.
I agree 100%. We have both, but I avoid Costco whenever possible. We keep it only because one of the eyeglass prescriptions in our family has a surcharge at places like Zenni, so getting the lenses for $50 at Costco (plus a second pair for "free" with just the cost of frames) ends up breaking even with the membership cost. There are one or two things Costco regularly sells that is a good price (3lbs of chia seeds for like $9 is one) that helps. Kirkland toilet paper is still the pre-pandemic width, so I buy that. We only drive EVs these days, so waiting in line for Costco's "top-tier" gas isn't a benefit for us.

All three Costcos around us are a zoo. The Scan & Go at Sam's is amazing, I can't believe anyone puts up with lines. And a hill that I will die on is that Costco's food sucks compares to Sam's. We have been to all three; my kids hate their pizza and their hot dogs suck (and no sauerkraut!). Froyo is twice as much as Sam's (and it's the same stuff). I don't think you can order food from the Costco app like you can with Sam's; it's nice to just walk up and get my food without waiting in line.

I just don't get the Costco cult following. Like most places, you only save money on some things and they make it up on overpricing others. Their return policy is generous, I'll give them that, but so was REI's before it was abused enough that they had to crack down on it.

Quick note: Costco has gone up to $65 for their standard membership, so it's no longer $60.

If I purchase the plus membership. Can I start the membership at a future date ? Or does it activate right away when purchased?

Sam's club has its great perks such as not being so busy and the scan and go check out option is the best. The main reason I got their membership was because they were the only store I could find a specific similac baby formula in bulk size. I also go to Sam's to get my toilet paper. The members mark toilet paper is WAY better than Costco in my opinion.

Membership starts as soon as you purchase it.

I think Costco offers free shipping on high dollar stuff. Ordered some jewelry from there and it was "free" shipping....no doubt added into the price. Scan and Go at Sam's is the reason I prefer them over Costco.
Costco lists free shipping but it's built into the pricing. Compared to in-warehouse, there's always a couple of buck difference. But truth be told, the new shipping min at Sam's has me running back to base membership. And honestly, I just go much less frequently. My 2% rebate at Costco more than pays the full cost of my executive membership. Sams I don't even break even on the price difference

Your thoughts are exactly what I have thought about Costco membership. When I switched from Sams to Costco, they were great with their pricing, items stocked, variety, their return policy and a general good feeling that they treat their employees right. Then I started seeing items that I used to buy disappear from their shelves. Whereas they used to stock 100 different wines (lucrative for them), they removed all bagged tea including Lipton. Then their associates would lie about when they would get them back in stock. In reality, management had done away with that product. Then they started increasing their pricing from everything including the produce. That's it, I had it with them. I maintain a associate membership because my cars are gasoline and their top tier rated gas is pretty good. Also, I buy their bagels and odd items once in a while. The gasoline and other small purchased pay for the membership via the Costco Citibank visa, which is another commodity I avoid with a passion. The CC visa is a junk credit card with no real benefits.

Depending on how much you spend, with Plus, you get the 2% cash back in Sam's Cash and it may end up paying for the membership itself.

I kinda want the costco people to stay in costco with their TP cult. MM's TP and paper towels are a step above Costco's.

Tried several times b4 and nothing worked. Finally, went on my Google acct and got a Google phone number and was able to get a new membership with my original Gmail addy. Then changed the phone number to my actual phone number on the online acct and everything is still fine. Thanks.

No W A Y, deals are better at Costco. They are priced higher than Sams for any given product, hands down!! To make it worse, Costco keeps taking out the items you like and buy frequently because the manufacturers gave them less discount. I would have ripped up the Costco card if not for the bagels and top tier gas that they sell! If only Sams had top tier gas, I would gladly show my finger to costco. I have compared my shopping list with Costco and Sams and I keep saving atleast 8-10% at Sams compared to Costco.
While the top-tier gas at Costco is good, I wouldn't have a membership for that or go out of my way to get it (and I have both Costco and Sam's Club memberships). Over the years, my wife and I have driven well over a million miles. We buy our cars new and drive them for about 200,000 miles before well sell them. In all those miles and all that time (going back to the mid '80's when gas was not as good as it is today) we have never had to have a fuel-related repair. No problems with the fuel injector, valves, fuel flow meter, etc. We always use name brand gas, but usually just buy wherever it is cheaper (we don't live close enough to either club to go there just for gas). While top-tier gas may be better on paper, in reality it is more about marketing than any real world effect.
