I use the dot email trick and have had 4 memberships so far…so if your email is [email protected] for the next time just use [email protected] and the 3rd time [email protected] etc etc basically any combination of periods will make Sam's club (and most places) believe its a different email address, but the email still goes to your normal gmail
I have been 'renewing' Sam's club membership every year for $20 (or lower in the past. This year we moved to a city with Costco so I got Costco membership and let Sam's Club membership expire. After a few trips to Costco, I bought Sam's Club again.

Costco is just too crowded for comfort. First parking is a pain and then you have to navigate your cart through hordes. And then finally check out lines are huge. It's just crazy. Sam's club has fewer people and so shopping is MUCH faster. And scan and go is awesome. My wife just refuses to step into Costco now. We figured $20 extra per year for Sam's Club is worth the peace of mind.

We'll probably still keep Costco. $60 is a lot but even one big ticket item a year makes up for it. So we'll keep Costco for major purchases and online ordering. Overall 'deals' are definitely better at Costco. But we'll use Sam's club for regular weekend groceries. Like I said, $20 extra just to avoid the crazy Costco rush is worth it.
I agree 100%. We have both, but I avoid Costco whenever possible. We keep it only because one of the eyeglass prescriptions in our family has a surcharge at places like Zenni, so getting the lenses for $50 at Costco (plus a second pair for "free" with just the cost of frames) ends up breaking even with the membership cost. There are one or two things Costco regularly sells that is a good price (3lbs of chia seeds for like $9 is one) that helps. Kirkland toilet paper is still the pre-pandemic width, so I buy that. We only drive EVs these days, so waiting in line for Costco's "top-tier" gas isn't a benefit for us.

All three Costcos around us are a zoo. The Scan & Go at Sam's is amazing, I can't believe anyone puts up with lines. And a hill that I will die on is that Costco's food sucks compares to Sam's. We have been to all three; my kids hate their pizza and their hot dogs suck (and no sauerkraut!). Froyo is twice as much as Sam's (and it's the same stuff). I don't think you can order food from the Costco app like you can with Sam's; it's nice to just walk up and get my food without waiting in line.

I just don't get the Costco cult following. Like most places, you only save money on some things and they make it up on overpricing others. Their return policy is generous, I'll give them that, but so was REI's before it was abused enough that they had to crack down on it.

Quick note: Costco has gone up to $65 for their standard membership, so it's no longer $60.

Sorry, just sharing the facts. The absence of a "top tier" sticker on the pump does not mean it is not literally the same gas as every other station is selling. It all comes from the same storage tank, that is the way gasoline is distributed in the US.
Top Tier gas is gasoline that meets a higher standard for detergent additives than regular gas. Gas is refined and distributed to EPA standards, which all refineries are basically the same. The additives are added at the end of distribution, or in the tankers for specific customers.

I never used sam's shipping as I purchase in-store all the time. I checked my amount between costco and sams. In sam's I am spending about 3100/year. So the only benefit for my case is cashback which is not worth, even though it seems that I am getting "60" back, which will be used in the next membership year which means that I need to renew at regular price...spending again 50-60 for (depending on the cashback) the next year. so, If I want to continue spending 50-60 for the membership every year, it will workout fine for my case.

But for those who spend 5K+ and get items through shipping...it is worth.
Just found out you don't get cash back for shipped items at Sam's. That kinda sucks.

I've only been a Sam's Club member for a week (though i have been in the past), but there are other things to consider besides the cost of membership. For example, at Costco I saved enough on a car battery vs the automotive parts and repair shops to cover the upgrade to Executive Membership (about $60-$80). About $40 savings compared to purchasing from Walmart. A years supply of generic Claritin or Zertec for $10 to $15 each. Costco has generic Alllegra now but it's still cheaper than anywhere else. A great price on melatonin, IB, various vitamins. If you have a Plus membership at Sam's, you can save a lot of money on perscriptions. The savings on a friends prescription was about $160 a month compared to the regular membership (without insurance). A really good selection of food. And the rotisserie chiken is a great value and versatile. Above all this, the cash back is a nice bonus.

Yeah, the gasoline attendant will know where the truck driver got his gas from. You did not realize that the gas station attendant is probably busy cussing his butt of in this weather to know where the gas came from. You seem to have written a lot of inaccurate replies judging from the number of posts you seem to have made
Not at all, my rating is high precisely because people know I do post correct and accurate information. I see you are a beginner here, just check your facts before posting and stop posting incorrect information, and your reputation will improve, in time.

"Top Tier" is largely marketing hype, IME, but it's true that the gasoline is literally the same.

ANY gasoline of the specified type and grade sold in the US meets manufacturer's specifications for any vehicle sold in the US and is fine to use.

I dunno. Yes and no. It WAS great before they upped the price of free shipping to $50. I've had plus for the past year and have loved it but hate that I have to shop that amount to get the free shipping. But that being said, I'll probably get the plus again. You have to shop for $50 with the basic membership to get free pick up too but for our family that happens pretty much every week.

Edited to add, you get more percentage back for Sam's cash too with plus
Didn't they give out some GC to use after you sign up @ $20? I haven't been able to get deals with free shipping. Seems everything tacks on a shipping. Some aren't even eligible after $50 (like a Coach bag).

I tried to get a physical card last week the same day I signed up. My phone was broken. Said they don't give those out anymore. Printed a bar code to scan at checkout.
That must be a very recent change. My wife got a card a few weeks ago.

But did a return recently and they gave me store credit on paper with a bar code.

That is odd. Maybe because it's shipping directly from Coach and/or value. I ordered some large cabinets for my garage a few years ago and they charged me due to the weight/size.

Sam's Club customer service in NJ is terrible: they will try to do everything so that you don't want to return anything, for example, they say that the return window for laptops is only 14 days, they say that rule is on the website. When I ask to see it on the website, they let me return a laptop within 90 days. They sometimes told me that I needed to bring the item to the store where I bought it to return.
The self checkout line in costco is unbelievably long: from the checkout machine till the other end of the store.
And Sam's Club doesn't let you cancel the auto membership renewal online, you have to go to the customer service in the store to do so.

Need a card to buy gas if you don't have a smart phone. Speak to the store manager.

Thank you, OP for posting. I have signed up for a year. $20 is reasonable.

I went with a friend the past weekend to Sam's and was able to buy two dozen eggs without reliving the COVID era lines for TP/paper towels.

Overall, Costco will remain as my primary but will be nice to have Sam's as an alternative.
Better at Sams:
Sam's Club grapefruit are FAR superior to Costco's.
Their batteries aren't Duracell

Better at Costco:
Depends adult pads go on deep sale
Captain Morgan goes on deep sale

I must be dumb. Tried the google trick, and it's still telling me this is for "new members only" Does it pull the phone, address and name of the account holder too?I've tried five different emails, and keep getting "Looks like your membership has expired." "Do you want to create a new one using the same account info?"
I had the same issue, but here's what worked for me. I entered a new email address and a completely random (fake) phone number that I had never used before. This time, I didn't add anyone to share the membership either—normally, I'd add my wife, but I skipped that step. And voilà, it worked!
Once you're logged in, you can always update the email address and phone number to a valid one. Just make sure the new email is accessible for the one-time verification process when logging into the app or website before updating it to a different email address.

Groupon has the same promotion. I would use the gift card I bought before for this.

No, but Hotmail/Outlook lets you create "aliases". Check your account and you can create a maximum of 10 aliases (though there is a limit per month of 2, I think). You can create and destroy aliases at will. I do have the Microsoft Home 365 subscription, so not sure if this alias feature is available on free accounts.

Once you log in (use browser on desktop), click on your initials on the top left and go to "My Microsoft Account" (Alternatively, go to https://account.microsoft.com/ ). Then on the left side, click on "Your Info". Then, go the section named "Account Info" and click on "Edit Account Info". You can create/delete aliases there.
Thank you! I had forgotten that they had this feature. Reps to you
