New $650 so $130 off for refurbished direct from canon which IME is as good as new for lenses. This is a great affordable lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras like the R-10

Would a lens as long as this require extra bracing? For eg. when using with a tripod

From my experience, this thing is incredibly light and I never got the impression that was needed, even while extended.

When lenses require it, they'll come with a lens to tripod mount.

I'm sure it's an extra purchase.

Yes, just not officially due to the way the lens is made--no mounting threads on the bottom.

I have this lens. It is super light . You don't need a tripod unless you need to do long exposures.

I see them used at nature preserves by the birders. Here's look at some real world photos and the review are positive: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4607780

This is the regular price for this refurbished lens. It is a good value for that price, but Canon reduces the price a few times every year.

With a full one year warranty on refurbished and bonus is another 10% off if a Canon Loyalty member. Note they will ask the serial number of your current Canon lens.

I'm jealous cause Nikon never made a lens like this, the longest crop lens was 300mm. Boo.

This isn't a crop lens, and Nikon does have a 100-400, it just costs 4-6x times as much, and weighs twice as much too. It does at least have a larger 4.5-5.6 aperture.

Ahh, at 6" and 1.4 lbs I figured it must be a crop lens!

Nikon does now have a 28-400 with a max aperture of f/8, at 5.6" and 1.6 lbs, that would be the closest equivalent.
