I've used my card to pay property taxes. You get the points and the bonus

But really, I have had this card for years and it's been ok. I did a lot of work to get the companion pass then COVID destroyed the airline industry. I was able to fly with my son maybe twice. Even after flights went back to normal, there was so much uncertainty with SWA (like pilots all calling in sick) that I gave up on flying altogether. Now I have over 100k in points just sitting there. The lesson I learned about these cards is that you're signing up for an ecosystem.

Who knows? Things might change to where SWA is the premier airline to the destination I frequently travel then my 100k points will final be used. Until then my points have just continue sitting there.

Just sharing my experience. It may not be yours

What's the hack? Applying for both cards?
One personal card + one business card around November timeframe = 80k+80k = 160k with two years of companion pass

The southwest cards allow you to apply every 24 months so if you have a "player 2" as your companion you can earn the pass perpetually if you time it right and don't mind applying for business cards.

So if you had applied for the business swa card late 2024 and earned the sign up bonus in early 2025 then applied for the personal card in early 2025 and hit the bonus fast enough you would have companion pass for the rest of 2025 and all of 2026.

Then in late 2026 have your companion sign up for the business card and try to hit the bonus in early 2027 and also get the personal card in 2027 and hit the bonus then they have the companion pass for all of 2027 and 2028.

Then in late late 2028 you will be eligible for the sign up bonus since its been over 2 years since you last earned the bonus and you can start the cycle all over again.

Wait, so the 24 months bonus is applied to per card, not any bonus you've received? All this time I thought as long as you've received the bonus points, that's when the 24 months kicked in.

They track the business bonus and the personal bonus separately. You are correct that it is 24 from earning the bonus but since you get priority pass for the year you earn it plus the year after, you should be well beyond the the 24 months if you have your partner also apply for the cards on an alternating basis.

Some people have reported that Chase is getting a little more stringent on business cards though so I would apply for that one first to see if you think you can run the cycle and being a chase card you need to be below 5/24 (The business card doesn't count towards 5/24 but you still need to be below 5/24 to get approved for it).

anyone know how quickly the companion pass is activated? if you spend $4,000 on day 1 of receving the card will the SW companion pass go into effect upon next day? or next statement close?

Same question. I am reading this in the fine print.

Companion Pass After You Spend $4,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening: To qualify for Companion Pass®, you must make Purchases totaling $4,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. Please allow up to 8 weeks for Companion Pass to post to your Rapid Rewards® account.

Have travel planned for June and what makes this worth doing is being able to have it for that.

The companion pass was available to me the same day I received the email that my first statement was ready. Here is my timeline: Applied 2/12, met minimum spend 3/4, statement date 3/11 (but no companion pass showing in account); email about statement and companion pass available 3/12. After giving the companion info, I could immediately add a companion to an upcoming flight on 4/4, after canceling the paid ticket for that person.

And PSA for those who get the Plus card: I made the mistake of just googling whether there is a foreign transaction fee. After the results said no, I made a purchase. Turns out the lowest level card does have a foreign transaction fee; it's only the higher level cards that don't. I'm annoyed that I didn't research it better, but luckily it was a small purchase.

Is it possible and easy to apply for business card if you don't have a business? Please answer ASAP as the deadline for this promo is ending soon and I want to get in. Thanks so much.

Legally you have to run a business to apply but the card mostly goes off your personal credit report if you are using your SSN as a sole proprietor.

In the past I have been approved for Chase Ink cards claiming $500 annual revenue(not profit) because I sold a random item for $45 so I figured if my business could just do that every month it shouldn't have any problems pulling $500 in revenue(not profit) every year. They never asked me to justify it so I never had to explain that story to anyone.
