Personally unless you are going to use CP a ton of times the higher points deals are better.
If you do already fly a lot, you already can earn CP without forfeiting all the points you'd get on a better offer.
YMMV
If there is no time crunch, you could wait till the fall, and hope for a 75k deal and try for companion pass in early 2026 for 2026-2027 the old fashioned way. It just depends on how soon you want to chase it (pun intended).

Yes, you need to cancel your existing card, and THEN apply to get this offer. I also think it is wise to cancel asap and wait until a day after when your next statement close date would have been before re-applying.
Companion Pass old fashioned way is this:
Old fashioned way is achieving 130,000 companion pass qualifying points in the same calendar year. (Which is really only 120,000 if you have a Chase SWA card at Jan 1 -- because you get a 10,000 companion qualifying points boost on Jan 1 if you are a cardholder).
The old fashioned way is to apply for a PERSONAL CARD with a bonus point offer in NOVEMBER. Normally it is 50,000 bonus points (after $$$ spend is completed) but it is also often 60,000 (especially if you are on a flight on SWA wifi) or even sometimes 75,000
The old fashioned way is to apply for a PERSONAL CARD in November or around that time. Then, wait until January to complete the 'spend', so your 'bonus points' hit in January (you are timing out the 'calendar year' issue.).
Then, either of the two options:
(a) apply for one of the Chase SWA business cards (60,000 points or 80,000 bonus points)...and once you complete that spend in the beginning months of 2026 -- you will now have achieved the points you need (all within the same calendar year of 2026) and get issued a companion pass in early 2026.
or (b) Find some other way to get points in early or mid 2026 to get you over the top. some people do it through 'referral points' of 20k per referral. [ At this point, if the bonus was large when you got your individual card you will already have about 75,000+beginning of year boost 10,000,a nd will only be 45,000 away --so two referrals plus some more ordinary spending could get you there...get your mom and your sibling to sign up in early 2026)
The good thing in doing it this way is that the Companion pass will be good for the remainder of 2026-, and all of the next year, 2027. (So you get the companion pass for almost 2 years, instead of this current offer where it is less than a year).
If you dont have a business, can you apply for a business card? Yes , most people do. They say they are a sole proprietorship (unincorporated) and say they do some business activity such as selling items on ebay,, selling concert tickets, or something else like renting a house.
The easiest way is PERSONAL CARD + BUSINESS CARD -- with both bonuses hitting in the same calendar year.
Good luck

Almost always from when a bonus is earned not when the card is issued.
Sometimes it's date from when account is closed.
In this case:
This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
So if you took out a card in November of 2022 and got a bonus in March of 2023, you would have to wait until April of 2025 to qualify for the offer.
What's the hack? Applying for both cards?
So if you had applied for the business swa card late 2024 and earned the sign up bonus in early 2025 then applied for the personal card in early 2025 and hit the bonus fast enough you would have companion pass for the rest of 2025 and all of 2026.
Then in late 2026 have your companion sign up for the business card and try to hit the bonus in early 2027 and also get the personal card in 2027 and hit the bonus then they have the companion pass for all of 2027 and 2028.
Then in late late 2028 you will be eligible for the sign up bonus since its been over 2 years since you last earned the bonus and you can start the cycle all over again.
Grocery store and gas gift cards, not sure if they will count tho, may have to do with how they code it.
In the past circulated coins at face value was the ticket but the US mint doesn't do that anymore.
