this is not the same Pioneer as the one from 20 years ago. the original one made marvelous stuff.

the Pioneer TV of today is made by TCL... the Chinese company that bought the name
This seems like a decent option for a large 4k monitor if you're good with 4k at 60Hz. I'd bet it doesn't properly display chroma 4:4:4, but at this price I think that's probably expected. It did look like in a couple of the reviews that there was some light bleed and panel uniformity issues that people didn't note, but it's possible they were overlooking it given the price point. Sidebar - it looks like Best Buy incentivizes their consumers to leave reviews, which I think has to lead to a favorable slant, so I find that strange. I'm sure BB doesn't suggest to the consumer to favorably review the product, but I think that will just happen naturally when someone feels like they're being compensated for the time they spent reviewing something.

Still, that minor observation aside, I think if you know what you're getting into and just wanted to use the TV like a "dumb" TV (because I don't think I'd personally set up a Xumo account) for a desktop setup with a console or PC I think the value here is probably incredible. I'd definitely power it on right away to see if you need to play the panel lottery in regards to backlight bleed and panel uniformity.

There was a decent review of this model on YouTube that is probably worth your time to watch before buying, but the reviewer seemed to believe that the TV was a good value even at $200, so at $120 it seems like a no brainer.

For those who wonder, all you need is an email to set up a xumo account in order to use all the apps on it. (Netflix, youtube etc) it did ask to add a payment method and I just skipped that process and then I was able to use the tv just like how you use a anynother smart tv. i was able to use it as second screen for my laptop also thru hdmi and it took a few seconds to detect the laptop and I am impressed how clear it shows the fonts. 4k video looks decent for $120. Remove control and manual is easy to use. Tv is responsive when it switches/open from apps. I think this is perfect for your guest room or garage set up if you are on a budget.

We have always bought the ~$300 Samsung TV's for the kids bedrooms and whatnot, but this past fall I came across the Pioneer 55" at Best buy. Having had the Pioneer plasma, I went off brand recognition and got the Pioneer for my son's college apartment. We bought it last fall and just this week, its all messed up, all these lines like when you see someone throw's a Wii controller into the screen. He said it worked the night before and now all messed up the next day.

Currently have a support case into Pioneer so we'll see how that goes. I'm wondering if we should have just stuck with the Samsungs, as the 3 we've purchased are all over 5 years old and going strong.

yeah, good point to clarify. I had read before we purchased they weren't manufacturing anymore. I guess I was just nostalgic with the name but had heard of TCL so wasn't really concerned, esp since we just needed something lower cost.

Bought this tv right before black friday and it's a great picture. I HIGHLY recommend using a plugin device for smart apps as the one thats baked in (XUMO) is absolute dog water. Slow as molasses, but if you have one lying around this TV is great elsewise.

I bought this TV. There is light bleed from the backlight and the uniformity of the lighting is not great. This is especially noticeable on blacks. That said, the image quality is good enough. The audio quality is not great either. It bothers me more than the image quality actually, but for $120 I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy another. I'm not a TV snob and just wanted a basic TV. I use an Apple TV and have not used the Xumo interface, so can't comment on that.

It's same price on the Best Buy website. Make your purchase depending on which one gives you the best deal if you have discounts on either.

That being said, I purchased this same model for the same price last year. Picture quality is OK, sound I wish it would be louder. The TV is for my exercise room which is why I went with the cheapest TV I could find. XUMO is garbage, remote is garbage. However, it fits my needs so I'm happy with that.

Would be a great option for an Airbnb, guest bedroom, grandma's TV, or even a kid's TV. I wouldn't recommend it for what you use to regularly consume movies/shows.

I got one from best buy last go-round on the front page, and calling it a cheap TCL TV is as spot on as you could get. The interface is a little slow, and the picture quality is a little washed out. Best thing I can say is the ATSC tuner is solid.

I have a Xumo TV and it's the worst. They removed the remote control app in Christmas 2024, so if you lose the remote you have to buy a new one or you can't use the TV. The ecosystem is horrible.
