Unfortunately t mobile charges $30 extra on phones (apple sells ip16 for 800 and t mobile for 830.
T mobile also asked for $35 connection charge.
This extra $65 surcharge makes it less appealing ☹️

Sure they existed but it is a dumb way to run a business.
Some folks report they got lucky with reps that allowed the unlock. However, many more report it was denied and officially it's now against policy. See my posts 2 above, i directly messaged T-Mobile.
It sucks. See my post directly above. It's hit or miss whether a rep grants it to you or not. officially iphones are not allowed anymore.
T-mobile gets crappier by the year...
this was the 'glitch' several years ago. people would call up tmobile and ask for a temp lock but that would fully unlock the iPhone
Unlock phone isn't a big deal unless you switching services.
I was erroneously assuming that a call to t-mobile will allow me to add an international data eSim. Guess not.
I hope this is not the policy for future deals like when iPhone 17 is released but I fear it is.

also, you qualify for a costco/sams card when you upgrade through them. it's about $75
I'm thinking of doing this deal. I have a simple choice plan and an old iPhone 12. but I'm still debating.

This is the best offer for older plans in over a year. If they do this for the 17, it will probably be around this time again. I have been waiting for them to offer this for magenta max plans, and this is the first one since the new go plans have been available.
