FYI This particular M4 model has an upgradeable SSD! Go to the sub 'Macmini' on Reddit for more info-or just Google it. (Search for 'SSD' on the sub and there are multiple threads about this.)
This process should get better as time develops as last year the only process that was popular involved soldering and other technical stuff. There are actual kits being sold now.

Anyway, a lazy search for upgrade prices is approximately $280 to $320 for 1or 2 tb upgrades.

For comparison, I bought this same model except I went with the 512gb hard drive for $719 last November. This was using a 10% military discount on the Apple store. So basically an extra $220 for another 256gb storage.
I've been waiting for this deal through AAFES! Thanks OP! Salute to all my brothers and sisters that are currently serving or that have served. 🫡 🇺🇸
This deal is better. You don't have to pay taxes through AAFES.

Been waiting for this and had 2 $20 gift cards ready. Now I just wished I could get a touch id keyboard for cheaper.

For what is worth you can get it for this same price from Apple, using the education website. I recently bought one without having to provide even an edu email address.

DOD civilian workers should also be able to get these deals. I can do Navy Exchange and they should all use the same system.

AAFES, Navy Exchange, and Coast Guard Exchange do not always have the same deals. AAFES has historically had much better deals on Apple products.

I strongly suggest all public service employees, first responders, military, veterans, students etc to register at ID.me this is a site that verifies your status. Once registered you can shop there or use your ID.me verification to get discounts at sites that offer discounts. For instance, I believe Lenovo offers a discount at checkout but you must verify through ID.me to get it.

The difference is AAFES doesn't charge tax.

Probably the absolute most bang for buck desktop you can buy today, maybe even ever released, can't really go wrong at all.

The only downside is the drive size but you can easily get an external drive to put pictures etc. on if you need it. Can even upgrade it if you're technically inclined down the line
