Also if you're upgrading an "older PC" be mindful if it even has an m.2 slot, and if it does, will it accept an NVMe m.2 drive, a SATA m.2 drive, or both. I've run into all sorts of the above situations.

I'm a gamer and still using MX500 SATA SSDs with 500 Mb/s. Recently bought a cheap NVME with 5000 Mb/s and doubting I will notice a difference. Even old SATA SSDs are quite fast compared to HDD drives.

really on the slower side for an nvme now. but price is good for 1tb if you were upgrading or building another computer.

Why do you need faster for regular usage or games? I'm skeptical average user will notice SATA3 vs NVMe speeds. Hell, many don't even know what 90hz looks like.

for normal use you wont notice much outside of maybe boot times and loading of software. for gaming, loading screens etc will go much faster. in games without, pulling data from the game files will be faster. its not something most people will notice, but it does have an effect. its easier to notice going from an older sata drive to an nvme than from a this to a high end nvme.

boot times/ software installs etc alone make me never want to install on a sata ssd again. for the game drive they are fine, but even then the cost isnt that different anymore outside the high end stuff.

It's going to depend on what games you play, what graphics level, and a bunch of other things. If you play games like LoL or CS2, Sata will be fine for you, Large open world games, games with lots of detail, games with a lot of objects(players or npcs), you will be glad to jump to nvme speeds. My easiest comparison is looking at load times in the PS1 era vs Load times in the PS4/5 era.

It is going to depend on what you play, in some cases for smaller games, 2d , some indie games, SATA is fine. Games with larger worlds, a large amount of detail, lots of players/npcs etc, That's where NVME will help out. It will also depend on graphic detail, resolution, etc you play at.

Well aside from what has already been mentioned, there really isnt much if any price difference between sata3 and m.2 prices

It's a big difference if you use as external drive; it's a slow dog without dram; I think it's slower than HDD.
