Available from:About this book:
  • This is the second book in the Red Rising Series.
  • As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow's kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.
  • A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind's destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo's principles of love and justice to free his people.
  • He must live for more.

While I recommend this series wholeheartedly, my days of being a paying kindle customer are over.

This is Book #2 in the Red Rising series. I've been hooked on this series for a few years now. An extremely good read that pulls you in and doesn't let go. The author takes risks that I have not seen before.

The series is split into two trilogies and both are amazing. The first trilogy is easier to digest while the second trilogy introduces a ton of new characters. Once you expand your scope for the second trilogy, you realize the massive brilliance of Pierce Brown.

Violence, love, adventure, friendship, terraformed planets- this series is one I recommend to everyone who loves action, adventure, or sci-fi.

This series is a fun read. I couldn't put them down. I haven't had time to wade into the second trilogy yet, but it's on the list!

Audiobooks are gory damn brilliant. It has a different feel than the original trilogy, but it's still very good.

I mean at this point that feature is primarily used by pirates? "Backing up" a book is the same as copying it to another location, may as well just grab someone's epub or pdf….

I have an older Kindle and the wifi does not work anymore. I have books on it but I can't check out library books anymore.

Imo, first book is 10/10. This book is pretty good at 8/10. Third book is okay at 6/10.

Absolutely great book series. First book feels a little more like an adult Hunger Games while this book goes full on Sci-Fi Game of Thrones on steroids.

What if you decide to get another e-reader in the future, like a Kobo or Boox? Or maybe a reader that does something Amazon refuses to do like, gasp, add page turn buttons. I guess all your Amazon purchases are stuck now. You can want data portability while still wanting to support artists.

Sure but you already supported those writers.... so now you can download their epub the bad way?

I didn't love the first book, but keep hearing great things about the series as a whole. I'm buying it since it's $2, but hope I enjoy it better than the first.

This safeguards against content editing. We have editors modifying content or pulling books over currently favorable commentary. There is also the case of Amazon arbitrarily putting limits on how many of your kindles you can download the books on - I faced it yesterday when trying to download where Amazon just said to disconnect my other kindles (physical and software) before it would allow me to download to my "Kindle (Windows)". They put out a "Buy" button instead of "Rent"/"License" but treat it as the latter with arbitrary rules.
So, doubling down on my PSA.
Edit: If you piss off Amazon, you could lose your entire library. What then? The other day I didn't receive a refund for something I had returned. If I did a chargeback with any other retailer, I'd be doing it only in the context of the transaction. With Amazon, they are known to completely block off your account.
