BUT WAIT… there's more! Had to get your attention. I've had this for I believe 6 years now. Works great BUT… AFTER you upgrade the head to a Husqvarna head. It's PN#: 537388101

It's a direct replacement. Takes less than 5 minutes to swap. The factory DeWalt head was trash and lasted like 3 months. I'm still on my original Husqvarna replacement head. ZERO issues.

The tool speeds up and actually performs how it should. Trims string like a dream and works flawless. The head is like 30 bucks on Amazon.

Bought mine nearly 9 years ago, and it's still working well. It's nice not having a cord dragging behind me, nor another motor to maintain. Mine came with a 5AH batt, and was 200$ so I feel like this is a real good deal. Though, they are slightly different model numbers with mine being dcst920p1, so I'm more certain what has changed in that time.

Edit: just remembered there was a battery promo going on, and I got a free 3AH with it.

I'm on 1 acre. I can trim about 75% before needing a charge. Pretty happy with my purchase overall. If you replace the trimmer head, there is 2 different models that come up. Double check the pictures for the right one. Sometimes my trimmer head clogs and I gotta stop and restring it. Usually it works fine.

I was going to pull the trigger as my older one (different model) seems to have some sort of overheating issue after many years. Finding this model at HD it seems there are a lot of reviews complaining about overheating and the motor burning out.

Yeah, the motor on the bottom design will be prone to clogging and overheating issues.

I have had that no feed / restringing problem with several string trimmers, and it seems to have 2 causes.

1. The line on the spool isn't wrapped tight enough, and the feeding strand wedges between the lower strands and gets stuck. I wrap my spools tightly to minimize this.

2. I'll get too close to an obstacle and break off the line right at the feed hole. The lack of string spinning on the outside of the trimmer head means that there's no centrifugal force to pull the line out.

The strange issue with mine is that the motor is not physically hot, but if I leave the tool down for a bit then I can come back and continue trimming. So there's clearly some use time correlation. I've searched everywhere for the answer but can't seem to find anyone with similar issues. It's very annoying to be in the middle of a job and then have to stop.

So I'm fine with buying another trimmer but not if it's going to have the same problem.

If you do buy another one, wait for a deal on the flexvolt model with the motor on top by the battery.

Yeah it will be this year. Frustrating to get the job done and constantly have to stop because the tool is overheating.

I've seen several cordless tools get wonky like this. With trimmers and such it can be a bound up driveline that doesn't turn freely due to wrapped grass under the trimmer head, etc. But I've seen cordless drill drivers and impacts do it too. The overheat detection circuit seems to drift over time to the point that it triggers when the tool isn't anywhere near overheating. Unless you're an electronics whiz, the answer is usually a new tool, hopefully under warranty.

How does this one compare to the trimmer with leaf blower combo?
