I was worried about having to buy more tape quickly, which appears to cost around $12, but instead, I realized you can buy more than one of these machines, and you get the $8 discount for each! I got two of these machines, each with a roll of labels for $16.67!

The amazing thing about niimbot is that they are so popular that people have started writing their own software. The probably best one at the moment is here https://github.com/MultiMote/niimblue
You can print directly from the web app, completely offline and without ever using the official chinese app.
There's also scripting solutions if you have eg inventory management you want to automatize
Too bad the code expired. If you consider buying one for full price (definitely worth it) I would go for the 2024 upgrade from aliexpress for ~$17-20 since that one has automatic label positioning which is a huge convenience upgrade
