$250 travel credit has to be spent through their terrible portal, which is just a Hopper re-skin and routes reservations through 3rd parties (my last was an Expedia reservation). Most costs for the portal are higher than if you have an account with 3rd party sites like Booking, Agoda, or Priceline and CapOne will NOT match a logged-in price. There is no telephone customer service for booking.
Pros: Eno vendor specific CC numbers with number cancellation and holds are great for online signups
2 points per dollar spent and direct reimb. for travel using points at 1pt=1c is essentially a 2% cash back card if you travel
No foreign tx fees (for those who travel internationally)
If you travel a little, it's a good card. If you travel more than 3-4 times a year, especially if your preferred airport has a CapOne lounge, the VentureX is a better product to have ($395AF), but this is a good stop gap with a solid bonus.

Outside of a targeted snail-mail offer for 100k for the venture card like 10 years ago (downgraded to a silver after 1Y and still open) Cap1 is the only company that denies every application I make (has been over time for savor, venture and venture x as various good offers have been around)... Chase, Citi, Amex, BoA all seem happy to give me multiple cards annually within their normal approval rules... yet like Charlie Brown with the football I still waste a hard inquiry every 6 months trying.

What happens to your miles/rewards during the downgrade - do you lose them?
I recently had a AAdvantage card opened to take advantage of money off a ticket. I called to close and operator asked if I would like to transfer some of the purchasing credit to a card I already had without a credit hit. The difference - I still have American Airlines account - and accrued miles are still available to use in the future.
I'm not a big traveler - maybe want to start heading in that direction as I get older - and I see the benefit of a travel card - but hard pill to swallow for the yearly fees when I can get zero card fee CC that also offer some benefits on purchases. I sort of like this Venture card versus Venture X due to fees and you still get some good benefits.
I'm asking the SD community:
- Is this the best deal out there on a card?
- What happens if you close or downgrade this card to the points?
- For Venture - what airlines can I use points on for flights? I think I there is a list of airlines - but I think they are all crap.
- Would it be more advantageous to just go with the airline CC that I fly the most? I seemed have flown American Airlines more than most. Not married to any.
Thanks
EDIT: I will do the comparison - but any thoughts on Chase Saphire vs this card? I believe I received an offer for 100000 points but with a $6000 purchase within 3 months.

1) You pay AF of $95 and you get $1000 ($750+$250) - $750 - u can redeem for any travel related purchases - flight ticket, $250 - you have to use their portal. If you wisely find a deal in their travel portal, this card is great
2) you will lose the points if you close the card. Points will be preserved if you downgrade (but redemption rate may vary)
3) You may have to check the alliance (star alliance, oneworld) etc to transfer miles from one airline to their partner airlines. This may be worth for people who want to take maximum from the miles. But for me, getting 1:1 is not bad. I paid $1000 flight ticket and got $750 statement credit.
4) There are some AA cards that get you 75k miles/points. Given this card can easily get me $905 (net), atleast with this elevated offer, this is a good card.
5) CSP with 100k points always good. That is $1250 for flight redemption and if you transfer chase points to airlines, or book award flights, it might be a best deal.

So I was also comparing to Saphire - and the one thing I liked about Capital One - you get a $125 credit to Global Entry - TSA Checkin. That's a nice benefit - $125 credit is also money saved.
I think Chase has way better partners! One's I actually can use in USA. Oh well can't have perfect card I suppose.

Well, looks to me Capital One has more cash back deals compared to CSP
I read on Reddit where c1 prefer subpar customer since they will likely carry debt! Silly but yeah
Yea , I called them after I saw this post and they said I should get the travel credit within 2 billing cycles. I'm happy with the card so far and used their portal for 1 hotel booking since it was cheaper than other online sites. I also found out that they would price match as well. Great card so far.
