I just bought a 16 inch Macbook Pro m3pro 36gb ram and 512 ssd for 1699 at costco.
This deal gives you extra storage space for $100 more but smaller screen

Great point. Others may have different opinions, but if you travel with any frequency then I think the 14" is the way to go. I much prefer to take the 14" machine along, compared to the 16" (work machine). It's lighter, obviously, but fits more comfortably in backpacks, on smaller tables, etc. Of course if you NEED the screen space for your work, then 16" it is .

Speaking of storage, since you mentioned 512GB versus the 1TB in this post. I thought I'd reiterate that these machines don't support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2!!

The Crucial X9 Pro and X10 Pro help to illustrate this. The X9 Pro supports "up to 1,050MB/s", while the X10 Pro supports "up to 2,100MB/s". On the MacBook Pro in this post (and others), you'll hardly see ANY difference between the two drives. Plugged in to a Windows desktop is when I see the X10 Pro reaching ~2,000MB/sec.

If you want to see speeds higher than ~1,000MB/s, you'll want to buy a Thunderbolt external SSD. Something like the SanDisk Pro-G40 (TB3). OR, buy a Thunderbolt NVMe enclosure (with NVMe drive, or supply your own). Something like the OWC Express 1M2.

It was a clearance a few weeks ago. It'd be tough to find a costco that still has it in stock.

Thanks man! I currently use a Samsung T7 to store some videos and files. I took note of your recommendation next time a buy a new external Ssd worship

I see they also have this: Apple MacBook Pro MRX43LL/A 12CPU/18GPU - 2023 M3 Pro 36GB 14.2" 2TB SSD - NEW

now that's more of what I'm talking about, $200 more for 1TB, and you probably wont need an external drive......

Thanks for this. I was on the fence about this deal, unsure whether I actually need 36GB of RAM for my purposes (Lightroom photo editing and organization).

One thing I definitely do need is more storage space. Another 1TB for an extra $200 is worth it to me.

If you don't need Windows and you don't game...this blows everything on the market out of the water in this form factor. Any content creation work or ML work.
You could still game on it on lower settings

I meant more compatibility. No doubt Macbook Pros can play any game title but some of the most popular titles are Windows only Frown

No problem Big GrinBig Grin. I have a couple of T7's. They're great! I prefer them because of their all metal enclosure. Great for heat dissipation. I think the newer Samsung external SSDs have a rubber coating. More durable, but at the expense of cooling.

I have the OWC Express 1M2 NVMe enclosure (TB3, I think). Yeah it's fast on this MacBook, but in hindsight I could have done without it. The Samsung T7 and Crucial X9 Pro are just fine. I don't really need TB3 data speeds. I would guess most of us don't Big Grin. Video/photo editors etc. sure. In a work/business scenario where time = $$, then it makes sense.

Btw I ended up going with m3max and all same spec after learning that m3pro was nerfed compared to m2pro.
