https://shop.zojirushi.com/products/nlgac Here's a link to this product from the Zojirushi site. It says it is still fuzzy logic but adds slow cook and a steaming function to the unit. I've had my white Zojirushi fuzzy logic rice cooker for about 20 years now and it is still going strong. They still make my model, which says quite a lot about it. Looking at the great experience I've had with mine, I would just go with a plain jane fuzzy logic model like this one, https://shop.zojirushi.com/products/nswxc . I saw it on sale from $140.00 to $104 directly from Zojirushi. I'm not dumping on this deal, I just think if are looking for a dedicated rice cooker and do not need slow cook or the steam function, this fuzzy logic rice cooker makes great rice at a great price and will do the trick.

I've wanted to get a proper rice cooker. My cheaper offbrand from costco is fine, but it spits water no matter what how I wash the rice. Been wanting a fancy Zojirushi, and this might just be it.

Per a review I found - The slow cooker function on this seems to be lacking, due to a low capacity. I'd probably just use my larger dedicated slow cooker anyway. The umami thing sounds interesting, but I'm not confident that my palate will recognize much of a difference. Otherwise, this seems to function just as well as any other Zojirushi Fuzzy rice cooker. And at this price, I see it as a small premium to get a more visually attractive model with few perks that I'll probably never use.

Can someone educate me as to why this is worth 14x what I paid for my standard basic rice cooker? Is rice cooked in it somehow magically better?

Zojirushi never updated with the times. Don't buy these. Still uses Teflon and requires the old generation and their poor understanding to keep selling these at ridiculous markup. Buy the new brands or use instant pot. Go stainless steel.
Teflon is just fine for this. You would never "cook" with it. Only idiots could mess this up in a rice cooker. I've had the white version without umami for many years and it works perfectly fine. I get the hate for Teflon if it's like a fry pan and that would be justified but not for rice cooker

this is worth it. forever tried making cheaper rice cookers work but none make it as perfect every time as my zojirushis. they last forever too even with constant use.
