I'd also like to add that for this plane (Boeing 787), JAL is the only airline that fits 8 seats in a row in economy. All other airlines using this plane fit 9 people across in a row. This translates to a wider economy seat and overall less people (less crowded feel) in economy.

JAL is the only airline we use and we live in Japan. If you're short it won't matter as much, but if you're tall then JAL offers the most legroom to Japan in economy at 33"-34". And as we all know, those extra few inches make a world of difference

I want to second this! We just got back from Japan on this route today. We live near LAX but travel to Kansai (Osaka area) frequently to visit family. JAL has great, direct flights. I'm 6'1" and yes, the legroom is great. Their service is great, too. I opt for a non-lactose meal and I feel like it's always a step above the competition.

Sorry for being a travel noob, but could I book this round trip ticket (LAX to KIX to LAX), then book another one to check out South Korea, but come back before the return to LAX? Trying to do a multi-city and seeing if this would be an option?
Yes you can.
Years ago, I took advantage of a Cathay flight to Hong Kong for $400, then booked a separate round trip flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo for like $200.
Spent part of my trip in HK, flew to Japan for a week, then returned to HK for a few days before flying home.

Yes. SK depends on city. It's a wash if you intend to stick to Seoul, but worthwhile if you are visiting Busan.
Visiting Mainland China is a near no brainer since RT tickets is well over $1k.

Pretty good exchange rate. I went on business many years ago and the exchange rate was $1 = 115 yen. It is 150 currently.

Booked for July and it wasn't that bad. Also used points for part of the stay in Osaka.

Heck if you have Marriott CC and points, W Osaka is on average 40-45k pts per night vs $600USD.

I booked this deal a month ago. I'm glad it's still going strong. I think the rates have been pretty low around October time. Luckily I land in Kansai Airport a day before the Expo ends. I would recommend booking a hotel near Namba station or Umeda Station. Avoid Nishinari Ward at all costs (Homeless slum and sketchy at night).

Yep, but its about $15 more. I don't care though as it's worth it to do directly with the airline, just in case there are any issues after booking.

I've just booked and didn't get charged for seat selection.
I can confirm this. I had a choice of either JAL or Korean Air to Bangkok next week, but after seeing that Korean charges $50 +$10 for seat selection for the two connecting flights I chose the former.

Yeah just play with the date. I switch around before it show me the 630 price, for example i select the 5th - 11th but it show 712 but 5th -12th is 630. If the price different is not much then just do what you feel like fit your sched.
