This monitor used to have a horrible firmware on it, but it received meaningful updates the past year that addressed input wake/detection issues.

How is this a deal at all? Walmart has it for $300 without epp/edu it looks like, and for $20 more you can just buy the Neo G7/mini led.

I bought this monitor from Walmart in July last year for $320 plus tax. I have had a good experience overall. The image is crisp, and the smart features are a plus

The Neo G7 has consistently been around $400 if you have Epp/Edu and has been featured here consistently.

Looks OOS now unless they have it in store. But it has been around $300 in the past like what Miguel stated.

I found the smart features to be super annoying. I also had other issues with mine that just went back as warranty returns:
  • The TV interface was incredibly disruptive and the menus are not at all intuitive. Press the wrong button on the remote and you're clicking through tedious menus trying to get back to the PC screen.
  • HDR is hot garbage. (More on this in a second, though this is certainly not news.)
  • Screens would randomly go half-dark, half-normal. Only fixable with a cable pull or restart.
  • I often got random blinks - screen would go dark for a second, then come back. No rhyme or reason.
  • If my PC went into hibernation, 6 times out of 10 I'd have to hard-reset, because the monitors would throw a "cable not detected" or similar error.
  • On the other 4 times, 3 of them would result in fuzzy, washed-out text. Ironically, the only way to fix that (short of a cable pull or restart) was to turn HDR on, then back off.

$430 for me. Been keeping an eye on it waiting for it to drop below $400. Wondering, though, is there a compelling reason to consider the Neo G8 except a higher refresh rate? Rtings don't seem to think so, but there's got to be a reason it's a full $220 more than just the refresh rate, no?

Interesting. Mine said that the firmware was updated, but they still had those issues.

Not Smart and curved. It should be a completely different monitor for some people.

From what I've read the g8 had problems and couldn't go to the max refresh without triggering some issues. The g7 is what I'd get except for the curve drives me nuts for work type stuff

But there 50 apart now.

And they are very different monitors. I have both and if I had to take one with in a fire, it would be the G70B hands down. Why: because isn't gaming isn't everything, and it even does that well.
