Now that the gas station/Walmart money order method is long gone, how are people spending Mastercard gift cards these days?
Great for paying bills while earning 5% category bonus with either my Amex SimplyCash Business card (now discontinued), or Chase INK card. Edited: BUT the Amex option if you already have one is more likely to trigger a clawback, or worse from my latest reading.
Whomever gave a TD for "Not a good price" just does not know better.

Amex SimplyCash Business. I looked it up and they have now been discontinued for new applications. I had not realized this. Mine is still good...
Edit...
I have read that Amex has been much more averse lately to using for massive GC spending, so be careful. I have not really used it on a large scale.

At Staples - No Purchase Fee when you buy a $200 Mastercard Gift Card In Store Only (a $7.95 value) - Starts from 2/23-3/1/25 - Limit 9 per customer per day
FAQ's:
- No, you cannot use Staples GC's to purchase these.
- No, these do not count towards your spend requirements for a premier membership.
- No, these do not earn you any Staples rewards.
- No, you cannot use coupons/ rewards to purchase these GC's.
- Yes, you can split payment between multiple cards (if your cashier permits it) YMMV
- The limit of 8 may or may not be enforced depending on your store/ cashier. YMMV
- Why is this a deal? Some members have CC's that earn 5% CB at office supply stores (INK and Amex Simply Cash). Others need to meet minimum CC spend.
- What if my store doesn't accept payment with a CC? Your store likely has had issues with fraud and it is managers discretion on what payment they will accept.
- Other chase cards may have special offers for Staples ($ limited). Check your chase account under chase offers.

Is there any reason to use the Amex over the chase? I have the amex grandfathered simply cash card as well as the chase 5%(office supply) ink and reserve.

Only if you value cash back over Chase Ink points with the $25k cap per year and not much for liquidation options now...It does take 1 to 2 cycles for the Amex cash back to come.

For credit card minimum spend bonus requirements- is there a way to then pay the CC bill with the Mastercard? Or do you just pay the CC bill and then have $x in prepaid cards to spend?
One of my MS gc was stolen all the balance was within 12 hrs. The charge was for using Google Pay for online game payments.
It happens and is a pain, but you can recoup with a replacement from them.

Unless you have a card with a current balance transfer offer, you'll need to pay it off out of pocket.
I'd prefer purchasing from OD to Staples since it has $15 discount on $300 with Chase Ink Cash.
How i use these cards:
1. Mostly at Costco
2. Utilities' bills
3. Auto Insurance

It's good to spend on SUB.
UPDATED: I found some info on the Frequent Miler site. I googled "$15 off Office Depot Visa"
Certainly a better deal at OD, if you can do it right and if the store allows you to.
I'm only allowed to do one transaction per day for these at my store. YMMV.
BTW,for OD, the best practice with the latest fee increases is multiples of 3X $200 cards. The fee is $7.95 per card so for 3 is $23.85 fees, but $30 off gives you $6.15 profit, plus your 5% if you use Chase INK.
You'd lose money if you do less than 3X $200 cards. I just read they hard cap you at 10, So 9 would be the most earnings in one transaction, but doing 6 or 9 might or might not not be allowed by your store's particular manager.
They also mention that Amex is very sensitive about big spending on GCs. Read more on the site...

Did you register the card? How was hacker able to get the billing zip code correct? Actually, you have to register the card to be able to have valid zip code. Unless Google pay doesn't require a billing zip code, I don't see how the hackers can hack this type of prepaid card.
