Good price for a well regarded mini PC! These run around $350 bare bones on Aliexpress which will take longer to get... but leaves you with around $175 for RAM and storage compared to this deal. I opted to throw in 48 gb of Crucial PC5600 RAM and a 2 TB MSI drive for about $20 more, but for the convenience/support and simplicity of just ordering this from Amazon $522 is a good buy.

The newer AMD and Intel miniPC stuff with the 890m and ARC graphics are only marginally faster but usually double the price with the same RAM/storage. The flagship AMD AI series APU do improve graphics performance a LOT... but also only come in $2000+ Asus tablets (the Z13 Flow).

The 8845/790m is a potent combo and will run right along with the full 8000 series AMD desktop APU's but in a much smaller and more efficient package. These are a great buy right now while the madness of the current GPU market is sorting itself out if you want to roll through your back catalog of Steam / Amazon Gaming / Epic / GoG games that have been stacking up. They are also capable for media tasks, video transcoding/editing, etc..

This also has an Oculink port, and for $100 for the Minisforum Oculink dock on Amazon (plus whatever size power supply your card needs) you can connect a standard desktop GPU to this.
I have this computer. As said above, you can do better barebones off AliExpress. However, I can confirm that GMKtec will offer absolutely no support if you have problems. They won't even respond to emails. My Event Viewer logs show constant errors with the WiFi module. The computer also cuts off a few hours after I've put it to sleep. These issues could admittedly be due to Windows. With a rebuilt version from Amazon, you could just return it. Those problems aside, it's been a very capable setup and has easily handled photo editing.
Hi. I have the GMKtec K8 version. You can easily swap out the Mediatek WiFi card and replace it with the Intel AX210NGW. You can get this card from Aliexpress. Download the drivers from Intel's website. Cheers!

I wonder what the experience of using this with Linux is compared to the baseline M4 Mac Mini... Obv specs are higher. But does anyone have any direct comparison? Would be a fun youtube video...

This might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Uuu046EE28 I realize the mini is different, but cpu to cpu, might still help.

Out of all the deals for mini Desktop PCs this one seems to check all my needs, please let me know if I'm missing something.
I'm on a tight budget 😁
Memory for multitasking and design programs (Adobe) 😁
Decent graphic card for potential rendering and other heavy-lifting 😁
Plenty of storage, SSD a bonus 😁
The cooling system in theory looks good, but it probably isn't 🙂
The motherboard, I know nothing about. 🤔

problem is with Apple's insane pricing, a Mac mini would cost nearly 3x as much with similar memory and storage. So how do you make a fair comparison?

It would probably suit you well. Only caveat is how much gpu power you need. The 780m is a little workhorse though. I believe I read it's equivalent to a gtx 1650. Not sure how it would handle 4k encoding. It apparently does support hevc and av1 encoding. https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/igp...adeon_780m

If you don't want an oculink port there are much cheaper mini pc's with similar specs.

$290 on AliExpress with coupons going on right now. If you don't need it right away, and you can plug in ram and an NVMe drive.. I'd go the AliExpress route.

Also would work great w nvidia GeForce now at 4k 120hz.

Hi. I have the GMKtec K8 version and installed MX Linux 23.5 on it and it works great. I have swapped out the Mediatek WiFi card with the Intel AX210NGW and it's pretty solid. You can get the Intel WiFi card from Aliexpress. Takes a little bit longer to get from Aliexpress. Better get a move on what you want to get before the tariffs hits and the price will increase on these mini PCs. Cheers!

This is the reason why I went with the GMKtec K8 mini PC. The Mac mini is really expensive once you upgrade the memory and hard drive.

I just got the Ryzen 7 6800H , 24GB, 1TB for $270 from Amazon.

I installed ProxMox VM manager on it and created a 4 core CPU VM with 2GB of RAM. Passmark scores for the VM were 1.5 times faster than a N150 computer with around the same specs. (this does not take in account transcoding if that is your task).

I just use my M4 Mac Mini as a desktop computer, so I don't have any Unix workloads on it to compare.

The computer I got came with Crucial RAM and a Kingston SSD which surprised me. It is listed as "BOSGAME
P3 Lite Mini PC Gaming Computers Ryzen 7 6800H, Radeon 680M Graphics, 24GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB PCIe 4.0x4 SSD, Windows 11 Pro,Triple Display (HDMI/DP/USB4),USB4 8K 60Hz,WiFi 6E,BT5.2,Dual 2.5GbE LAN"
