I've had two of these flukes die on me. I like to repair things, but I couldn't even get the PCB out of this thing the way they latched it in. Some people have managed it on YouTube but I couldn't. The fact that there are YT videos telling you how you _might_ be able to get it open should tell you something.

I switched to Klein. The Klein was slightly annoying in that it doesn't seem to work with rechargeable NiMH batteries so I had to put an alkaline in it, but apart from that it's held up well. I bought one with both high and low voltage detection.

I prefer putting my dollars to product options that aren't designed in a way that makes repair difficult.

I would not recommend a non-contact tester without adjustable sensitivity. The fixed one may not react if you don't get it close enough to a live wire or may give false positive reading. The adjustable can be "calibrated" against a live wire.

I had a Klein tester that worked great until it died. I bought a Fluke one on sale last year, but I found it less convenient since it only has one red light, whereas the Klein has both green and red lights. Another issue with the Fluke is that it flashes even on Cat5 cables, which is unacceptable for my needs. I use the tester to determine if a wire is safe to touch, not to detect low-voltage signals. Ultimately, I decided to return it.

It don't matter it's China or whatever. I never trust this stick , only use it for quick reference down to live circuit I always double check with meter.

This tester is the only one working among all non-contact testers, WHEN you have a bunch wires in the same box and you want to know exactly which one is hot. Any other tester will beep before it even reaches the box. Which means this tester is a little less sensitive so that there was one time I put it on a piece of romax, it didn't beep. I cut it and it was hot. However, it is still my favorite and my only trusted tester.
