Or game development, design/CAD, LLMs, VFX, audio work, or anything else that would benefit from keeping many large files cached. It's $200. At this price point you should just get it even if you only think you might need it at some point in the future.

Crazy deal. I'm over here trying to justify returning my Mac mini and paying $200 more for 24gb upgrade

To be fair, Apple charges about 8-10x fair retail price for their memory, so even a non-sale price on DIMMs is going to be way cheaper.

Truth!
Can't justify the expense for my use, but the main benefit would be future proofing your current machine. Although the secret slickdeal value there is to wait for office PCs to get scrapped and buy salvaged compatible upgrade parts.

That option gets pretty choked on what PC you are trying to salvage off of, given you're typically working with 2 DIMM slots...

Can't believe so many comments that this is too much ram, not needed, etc. what gives people?? You many not of any need , but there's plenty who do and 96gb is definitely NOT for future proofing (unless maybe in 10 years ! )

That would be running large language models. The more ram the better.
