I agreed with you, this price is too high for 4060. And the launch of 5000 series is coming soon. Either wait for 5000 series or wait for a 4070 deal at this price point.
Looks like a great laptop at 5lbs for the price. Proc is 16c/64MB with 50k+ benchmark rating and Mem upgradeable to 64GB and 2 M2 slots.. Don't care much about the video card. Any thoughts on running VirtualBox on this with a couple of guest VMs actively or is there a better laptop for under $1300?

Check this out on @Newegg:MSI Thin 15.6" 144 Hz IPS - AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS - GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU - 16 GB DDR5 - 1 TB PCIe SSD - Windows 11 Home 64-bit - Gaming Laptop (Thin A15 AI B8VF-270US ) https://www.newegg.com/msi-thin-a...6834156648[newegg.com]
No, it's definitely not. It would be better to at least know what you're talking about.
The display on that is absolute trash and so is the battery. The 4060 has a TGP of 45W. What exactly makes that a 'better deal by far'?

Can't tell if you're serious or just want to argue because you like this one personally
Start with paper specs and the ~$250 price gap. Anything you tally up and 'more value' needs to exceed that $250 to become better deal
Newegg deal is 20% lighter and less power hungry = needs less battery. Neither screen is anything to write home about and putting on external monitor or TV would make a wash. It's also got less to cool and thermals will throttle the ~15% FPS boost that comes with basically tripling wattage on a 4060
The juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'd take the experience of NE deal over this post and the full $250 of extra value - not even close for me

Dude - this one has the Ryzen HX and it is worth the extra couple of hundred bucks. I'll have mine plugged in always, so don't care much about battery life. I bought one and if you live in ATL, you can have the 4060 for $100. And I am gonna love all the heat it geenrates - will feel like southern FL.

Newegg deal and this one are both a 4060 variant; for $1k, I'm with the others saying it's gotta have more of an upgrade to be worth it
I wanna see a 4070 card or a 4K screen (1200 is mostly lost —> 1080 for gaming anywho). I want a substantial increase in experience for ~30% increase in price
I get there are different use cases, I just don't see this particular deal being different enough to check a different box
My personal here is that I went this route last laptop purchase and my buddy went the thin route. I had mostly the same reasons you stated, and have found it's really not worth the trade off. It's just inconvenient enough to sort of make it need to be parked and while it certainly "gets the job done", it's not THAT much of a difference and so would a truly portable laptop (like one you can set on your lap, hook up a controller, and game on the couch for 2 hours while the lady watches her romcom)
