This game was janky but I liked it a lot. Contracts 1 was better (far more janky though) and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 (no "contracts" in title) was similar in concept in terms of sniping mechanics but more open world....jankiness at level 11 but probably better than either Contracts game.

I played all on the PC if it matters.

My understanding was that ghost warrior 3 was horrid at launch but after patching and added dlc it became a good game and the best of the series.

Can't comment on launch, I didn't play it until 2022-ish. Still really rough but fun.

Based on CI Games other titles I could imagine the game launching in a very unfinished state. They seem to have the 'launch now, patch later' mindset...without many of them ever getting fixed. Sniper Ghost Warrior 1 still has many game breaking bugs 15 years after launch. After all is said and done their FPS games still tend to be fairly competent if you can put up with the rough edges, just low grade B titles made for the $5 bin at Walmart. Sadly I've completed much of their (currently available) FPS library Wink

Going to add that I really enjoyed these games too, but I also enjoyed the first one better. This game has more levels set up as a +1000m range instead of just large zones with free roam. This ends up rendering half of the equipment useless.

The first one expected you to do basically all of your sniping in <600m I think.

I almost imagined these being a modern day "metal gear solid VR missions" type of game.

Thats a good point, I don't think I bothered to unlock any of the drones, or tagging rounds, etc in 2. It was more like a game of which order you had to snipe everyone and from what positions (which was fun in its own right). The first Contracts was much more like MGS V where it was a very dynamic and evolving mission you had to make your way through. You could jack it up half way through and still could complete if you could action hero your way through it.

If I recall correctly 1 didn't have any aim assist so you had to actually understand the ballistics of each shot. Even as someone who has a shooting range on his property IRL this was quite the learning curve at first. Especially after playing SGW3 which gave you that magic red dot on everything. I'm also not doing 1km shots at my house either Wink

The game wasn't really...."worse" but very different. The "contracts" were far more structured and had more predetermined events but those events also allowed a more guided mission which might be a good thing to some people. Contracts 1 was more open ended on how and where you could (literally) attack the goals. I liked the more open ended approach better of 1. I do think Contracts 2 was a more refined / finished feeling of the two 'contract' games in terms of gameplay mechanics.

I think I alluded to it before but the lack of freedom in Contracts 2 mean a lot of the unlocks seem to have very limited usefulness so you probably won't even bother to waste skill points on them.

Of course! One more thing is contracts 2 was MUCH less frustrating for me. I swear that snow level in 1 had me about to throw my Steam Deck across the room because I kept getting 'sniped' by a heavy with a SAW from 500 meters away and the only auto save point was like 30 minutes before. That one level probably took me 5 hours to complete because I had to keep replying it.

That snow level was actually really cool, I probably would have replayed it a few times in different ways if I didn't have PTSD from just trying to progress.

I think I recall that happening as well, it took me 3-4 attempts on that part if I recall correctly which was a good chunk of time
