I put a 1' extension cord on all of my testers and kill-a-watts. It takes stress off the plug on the tester and allows me to turn the tester in any direction and helps get into tight spaces. The only advantage I see to the ST120 is that it is CAT III. Other than that it's no different than any other tester (except for the FLUKE snob appeal). Personally, I would spend $14 more on the Klein RT250 that has greater functionality.

I don't care for this style. I prefer the ones that just plug in at the end. This seems awkward; especially if there is anything else plugged in you would have to unplug that item to plug this in

I get that this is popular because it is a fluke product, but the format/form factor isn't optimal. This takes up more space than necessary and doesn't appear to have any benefits beyond a harbor freight example.

worse would be having to carry a 1 foot cord to test things in a wr enclosure

Going to take this with me when van camping. In La Paz Mexico I plugged my van into an outlet and grabbed the door handle and was shocked. I touched the metal bumper and again shocked.

Hey all. New homeowner here of a 1927 tudor that has some outdated wiring in various places, e.g., non-grounded outlets, non-GFCI outlets, knob and tube (gulp). I don't have much knowledge of electrical stuff, but would something like this be beneficial to have?

I do plan on having an electrician coming in later this year to update all the electrical to modern wiring, but it sounds like that's going to be a $20-30k project

If you use it for business, you wouldn't care about the $9 discount. If you just want to check your home outlet, get one in walmart for $5, it does the same thing.

Yes it would, especially for this cheap. It will point out which outlets in particular are problems. In fact I would encourage you to spend some time to learn home electrical, it's really not super complicated and maybe you'll find out you don't really need a whole home rewiring after all.
