Furnace filters are there to keep the blower motor and coil clean, they're not supposed to keep your house clean. Air filter companies changed the narrative to sell more filters. Using a filter that's higher than MERV 8 is putting a lot more strain on your furnace and can cause ice build up on the coil in the summer if not changed often. If you do use a filter with higher MERV than 8, specially on the 1" filters, you should consider replacing them every 3 months. My advice is to use a MERV 8 filter and clean your house more often, maybe buy a robot vacuum or an air purifier instead of spending extra $$$ on high MERV filters than can take years of your furnace life.
Not a deal. Home depot has always offered half off if you buy 4 or more of any air filter. I've used this for literal years. There's even a sign in the filter aisle at my local HD that advertises this.

I thought $5 per filter is a pretty normal price.

Costco is cheaper on sale but they have limited sizes. This is a good deal for the FPR 12 MERV 13 filters. I see the best I can find, live in south Texas - dust and pollen are heavy. Also protect a your hvac equipment from dust buildup

Menards has 3 True Blue filters 20 X 20 Merv 11 on clearance for $11.99 plus 11% mail in rebate. Half the price and perhaps a better quality if your local store still has them in stock

On sale at costco they are $35 for a 4-pack. Normal is $45, I believe. I recall seeing a 20x20 and maybe 25x25?

Furnace filters are a retail hustle. I didnt realize that until I started getting mine from a HVAC guy at his supply house cost and they are like 25% of the cost of stores. I think he paid like $8-10 each for my last batch of Honeywell 4x16x25 11 merv. He suggests to use 8 max but got me the 11 last time.

I have a hard time paying above $10 each. You know they cost a dollar to make I shouldn't have to buy multiples to get that There's no way I'm replacing them four times a year. It's a scam.

We use the green label HDX MERV #8 filters. Keeps the coils and blower cage fins clean. That's all you need. For actual air purification, we have room-size air purifiers.

Sign up for a Home Depot Pro account, it's free. A dozen times a year they send us Pro coupons usually $10 off $100 or $20 off $200. Using the Pro coupons you can get the green label HDX MERV #8 filters down to $3.90 a pop

You can get even better pricing if go you to your local HVAC supply house and open up a customer account with them and buy in large bulk. Pre Covid, we were getting large contractor boxes of spun fiberglass GlassFloss brand for $0.50 a filter, or $1 for basic pleated. post-covid and with inflation, you are looking at $1.75 for spun fiberglass and and about $2.75-$3.00 for basic pleated.

Also, sometimes Supply House . com website has sales on HVAC filters. Similar to the supply house mentioned above, you need to buy in bulk quantity to get the best savings.

I use the fiberglass filter so my motor can push air quicker. Been using it for years, no problem.
