Ha ha, why does it have to be sketchy? Are you afraid of what the Chinese will learn about that you're putting labels on?

Just remember these will always yellow after time. It is basically sticky reciept paper. The Dynmo and Brother Ptouch use a ribbon in cartridge with melts the text onto the paper. And the better ones have a plastic over layer which protects the print.

These just use cheap Thermal Paper and will Yellow over time because it is just paper coated with thermal sensitive chemicals. Which all yellow over time and with heat.

Its about general intrusion into your phone and network.

A lot of these cheapy products rely on you being lax about installing a proprietary app. That's how they generate their revenue. Not on goofy little almost-free trinkets such as this label printer.

this is a great display of the common ignorance... apps get tons of data from permission. it's sad how ignorant consumers are. even when you select "ask app not to track blah blah blah" it still can. apps "talk" to other apps u have installed. to each their own ig

Can you elaborate on exactly how you think revenue is being generated here?

Yup.

Here's a good example of the kind of stuff apps do in the background:

https://haxrob.net/that-battery-m...-the-post/

There's no reason for a battery voltage monitor, in this case, to be tracking the user's whereabouts, which cell towers they connect to, which networks they connect to, and sending all the data back to Asia.

Even if something like GPS coordinates are needed to facilitate the "parked car" function in that app doesn't mean that such information necessarily has to be shared. And why should a voltage monitoring app include such a function to begin with, when it's built into phone OSes and map/navigation apps natively. Plausible deniability that the app might have a remote reason to hoover your info and send it across the world?

And it's not limited to apps from a particular country, or region; all of them present similar risk.

There are different levels of data mining, and many may not care, if they get the benefit they seek. But it would be naive to ignore what's occurring.

Heck, it's clear that SD fingerprints site visitors to "personalize" the content, without even having to log in.
