Probably less people buying expensive-ass paint given the plummeting economy.

Employee said she hasn't seen 50% (or BOGO) off all paints in years. This is a great deal.

Is this limited to just one use? For example, if I purchased 6 gallons, would it be the price of 3 gallons or 5 gallons?

store employees are very flexible. Paint is overpriced in the first place, they will gladly give you discount.
You can ask them to show their mismatched paint and offer $5 per gallon. High chance they will take it since it is going into garbage anyway.

Or the sheer fact that Home Depot's Behr is good enough nowadays that you can use it for most jobs.

Really just comes down to chemical formulation, so anything that's new trickles down. (E.g. Paint that resists staining better, etc)

Also, depends on the wear.
If it's a bathroom with 5 kids running thru daily, sure, the best paints can help it look better longer. But a few adults that aren't messy? Behr will do.
I don't know if Behr vs. SW is really all that noticeable anymore, especially with their higher-end paint. Though you'll still rarely catch a contractor using paint outside of SW because time is a big factor for a pro painter and time is money. SW paint dries significantly faster (1-4hrs). Behr has a reputation for drying slow (4+ hrs, sometimes 8 hrs before a recoat). As a DIY'r time isn't as critical to me and can rotate my planned work vs being charged by the hour or worse force a redo of your paint job for messing it up and recoating too soon. They make more money the faster they can work, and you also probably pay them a premium to move fast and be done in a day. SW offers better coverage but I almost always prime before painting anyway, another thing pros love skipping if they can, without trading off quality. SW is hands down better for pros, but the premium they need and pay for may not be the same things you want to pay for, just something to keep in mind.

Their paints are good but yeah it's twice as expensive as it should be. Behr is as good or better with their Marquee and Dynasty lines at half the price. This is a good opportunity to try it and stacking the $10 off would make it a decent deal

We have used Duration in our house and been very happy with it. Not cheap, but it's very thick and 2 coats have been more than enough for each room

SW just had a 40% off sale, are they doing all right?
They do 40% and 30% on a regular schedule. They're only charging contractors like half of retail sticker. I dunno how many people are actually buying SW at full retail price... I've found SW with a sale and coupon to be cheaper than comparable Bher or valspar

Op, per your comment, I was considering untinted too but just to confirm, they won't charge you for tinted later, correct? Also, how long does untinted last before you need to use it?
Using Emerald Satin, which would be the finish level I would recommend for most interior applications at the high end

Need a bit of help here! I need to paint all rooms inside a house that hasn't been painted in 25 years because the person living there cannot deal with the smell or fumes because of respiratory problems it may cause. Can anyone point me to a paint which addresses these problems? I would just like to help this person have a nice house, without harming her while trying to help her.

You want a zero voc paint like this. While it will help, you still probably want the person out of the house during the painting and air the home out for several hours after painting.

Not sure if the 10 off 50 will stack. The BOGO coupon states it can't be combined with other coupons.

Also, for those buying unhinged paint now, how do you know which base to get as the color you choose later will determine what base you need?

As iamaven stated, get the zero VOC paint. It will still have a little odor but will not contain any volatile compounds.

I specified SW zero VOC paint exclusively when I had painting done at our facility. It's not as good a duration or emerald but it does the job.

I have used most SW paints from contractor grade ProMar to Emerald and I will say don't cheap out on the paint.

Why put effort into all that labor only to use cheap paint. I know it is slick deals, but that's why buy this BOGO. At this price point, Emerald is the same as Home Depot Behr Dynasty.

Some folks here recommend duration and it is a great paint, but Emerald is only like $5 more per gallon so I only use Emerald now.

Also, get a satin finish, it is durable, washable and will look better than flat.
