Yes this is a medium to low end dock geared towards gamers, with the variable of one model having a built in hard drive for more storage while the other by the sounds of it does not have any storage option. If this was to be a serious highend gaming dock you would want something with more display port options, but for the price its not bad. A really high end dock goes around $150-200.

Where? Can you share link?
First link goes to the product page without NVMe

Edit: dock without drive appears to be out of stock everywhere except Mayfield Heights, OH

nice Lego rack. Good luck to those who live close to a microcenter who might be able to get this dock.

I don't know about the built-in one, but the 850X I put in the one I bought shows it is connected at 8 GT/s x4, but I believe the best possible throughput is ~3000-3500 MB/s. Basically, it can run a PCIe gen 3 drive at full speed, while newer gen drives will work fine but the performance will be capped at gen 3 speeds.

I stuck a Samsung 990 Pro SSD in mine and was also worried it was running hot. There were various discussions on the web of how the built-in fan never turns on, or does not turn on until around 80c, which is very high.

Anyway, what I did was solder a wire to a solder point labelled "5V LED" on the circuit board and wired it to the built-in fan. The fan now run continuously, but still very quiet (5V on a 12V fan). It runs a lot cooler now.

These are excellent and quality. $30 is a a true deal, or paying $40 more for 1 TB sn750x is not bad.

PSA.. my local microcenter didn't show ANY stock, but in fact had 5 on the shelf and said they have a few 1Tb version in the back.

So if your want one, and show OOS, worth trying or calling to double check. I was surprised because my MC is usually good with accurate inventory

I tried plugging it into my asus m16 4070 T4 w/display port and the dock would not light up. Then i plugged it into the T4 port w/o display port and the dock came to life. It immediately sent the drive to 75c and the fan didn't spin. At idle with it plugged into the non 87w T4 port, the drive idles at 53c.
