What do the experts think? Much thanks in advance.
In most cases, you're going to want to leverage QuickSync for rendering tasks, so a better graphics card isn't going to necessarily speed up your output. However, this particular system doesn't have an integrated GPU.
If you're also using After Effects or possibly even Blender, that's where you'll leverage the GPU more.
Also, if you already have a top of the line system from a couple years back, the incremental improvements in performance are way more subtle. In which case, distributed computing might be a better move. That way, you're not tying up your workstation during renders.

I would say go for 40 series deals but there really aren't any. Just helped someone buy a 4070 rig and those are still $1300 and up (one with an I7). The new Intel chips sucking and the new 50 series being a minor step up (performance not performance per dollar) over the 40 series is really hurting the market right now.
We just had a 4070 pc for 900 last week and what was the point of you bringing up 2k? No one should buy this 4k/8k card to play at 2k. The point is 50 series is not worth it at this price.

I have a pretty powerful PC laptop from a few years back but I'm ready to anchor down with a desktop again for editing. The thermal throttling just isn't worth the portability tradeoff. I didn't know about QuickSync so that's useful to know. It's just a bummer that this system doesn't have integrated graphics to facilitate it because I'm 99% sure I'm going to pull the trigger on this build. Beyond video editing I have plenty of other use cases for a powerful GPU so I know it'll get used. I just hope the new CPUs and GPUs gets supported fully soon. When I checked it seemed like the 5080 would not be fully supported by Adobe for a little while. Thanks.
