Putting them in your mouth is the quickest way to test these coin cell batteries. Too bad people were eating them.

I have a giant sticker on the bottom of my Thinkpad stating that I should not eat the battery. Was that really a problem, people disassembling laptops, removing the batteries and leaving them around were kids could eat them?

The problem with these button cells is that you put one in your car remote & they last 1-1.5 years, then they die. Therefore, getting 6 in a package sounds like a value play, but the last 2 will slowly lose power by the time you get to year 7. Better to just buy the 2 pack from wally world.

Certainly! Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk [youtube.com].

Seriously though, the best way to test them is with a multimeter to confirm the 3V IMO. (Just place the coin cell on a microfiber cloth and place the positive probe on the top and the negative on the bottom.)

As for the actual value of these cells, the price seems high and off-putting. I recall getting a pack of 100 various coin cells for around $10 at Tractor Supply a few years ago.

However, I've noticed that devices with bargain basement cells often don't work quite right, even after testing for 3V. I tried three of those cheap Tractor Supply cells consecutively, and my remote refused to turn on or off about 50% of the time. I incorrectly inferred that the remote must be defective. But when I used an actual genuine Energizer cell, the remote worked just fine.

Long story short, I've learned not to cheap out on coin cells and to buy name brands from now on for reliability's sake. The price for quality makes me shed a "Cheap Basterd Tear" though, especially since the cheap stuff is readily available and has a decent chance of working fine...

Same here. As far as I understand it, they have a safety coating that makes them useless in some devices.

My family has four Airtags, we've replaced the batteries in each airtag twice using these batteries. They work perfectly.

The solution is to strip off the solution covering the batteries with a Lysol rag or similar. Takes almost three seconds. Lots of people still have cannisters with a few leftover rags from 2020-1.

The coating is what reduces the conductivity. Some devices have poor contacts. You can actually rub off the bitter coating a few different ways and that will enable them to be usable in "sensitive" devices
