For those who don't know, Chase [chase.com] is celebrating 15th anniversary of the Chase Freedom card.
To that end, for Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex card holders, there is an additional 5% bonus category for March only, which is Tax Preparation and Insurance. This is in addition to NCL, Grocery Stores, Gyms, and Hair/Nail/Spa.

Hopefully, this helps those that still need to file their taxes. And 5% off those large insurance premiums is always appreciated.

NO. You do not have to re-activate to be eligible for this offer. As long as you activated the first quarter 2025, you are also activated for the March-only tax prep and insurance offer.

If you have not activated first quarter 2025, then yes, you must activate. Deadline is March 14:

my geico renewal is end of april, and they said I can't pre-pay before the renewal invoice is processed, which is generally 2-4 weeks prior.

looks like I might just miss the 5%. ugh
My policy renewal date was 2/19, and I got an email on 1/15 with the new policy. So I'd say that you should have it by the end of the month. Of course, YMMV. And I'd avoid paying on the last day of the month, since Chase has a bad habit of having those charges post with a date of the following month. Currently arguing with them over a PP payment I made on 12/30 at night that posted with a 1/1 date and did not get points. I even had an email from Chase on 12/30 showing the transaction after I made the payment.

If I've already spent $1,500 on groceries, I can't take advantage of this I assume?
Get another Freedom card. Or do a product change if you have another Chase card that you're not using. I just converted my Freedom Unlimited to Freedom Flex,

Will look out for the email last week of March. Hopefully it comes in!

damn I paid all auto and home insurance for the whole year in Jan. Should have announce earlier!!!!
There were some online sites that posted the bonus categories back in January. My GEICO bill was due on 2/19 and I held off paying until yesterday to get the 5%. They give you a 15-day cancellation notice but I had time to pay it with no negative impact. Also did not pay my homeowner's policy, which also renewed in February.

Thank you for the info on this nice deal.

Is it possible to make split payments for CONNECT by AmFam (through Costco, formerly named Ameriprise) Insurance policy, some part with a Chase CC eligible for this Bonus and the rest with another card?

If you've done split payments for CONNECT by AmFam in the past, can you share the steps, preferably through online account without chatting/calling?

This is possible only through calling the customer service. I had done it last year. Chat said this cannot be done online.

I found the Tax CB, I don't see anything for insurance. Checked a few times.

"Get 5% cash back on Tax Preparation & Insurance"

As in…auto and car insurance? Just want to verify. It's such an odd pairing of the 2.

I've never used them, but I'm almost positive that the answer is no. Also, they apparently charge a 2.5% fee for paying your taxes by credit card, and you can do much better elsewhere.

That's not true. I pay with CC and I wasn't charged 2.5%. Are you referring to the pay with tax return balance? There's a fee for that option.

That' s interesting. Someone previously reported it was not possible even by calling. But that was couple years ago.

The poster asked "if I pay my taxes through my tax prep software, freetaxusa, does that count towards the tax prep category?" It did not sound like they were talking about the fee for preparing their taxes. Of course that should qualify and not be subject to a fee.

I was referring to paying taxes due with a credit card.

My bad. I read that wrong and thought they were referring to paying the tax preparer fee with CC.

I make monthly insurance payments, and my initial thought was, oh this will be a good chance to pre-pay out several months. Upon further thought -- wrong! My savings account is earning 4.x% and my Fidelity Visa card gives 2% on all charges, so it's better to keep the money.

Hm. My bad. I always thought I had to activate BEFORE purchases. Maybe that's because I've been trained to do that from Discover Card or all the other rewards/bonus type programs.
And in fact, if you do a product conversion to OG Freedom or Flex and activate the 5% category, you'll get credit for purchases made before the conversion, like I did for grocery purchases accidentally made on the Freedom Unlimited card at the start of January.

What's the 30% Fidelity discount? Is that for having a Fidelity saving or investment account and then how do you get 30% discount plus the 5% for paying insurance bills with Chase Freedom credit card?
