Sigh I just finished my 9800x3d build yesterday. This deal would've been great.

Anyways, I've always used intel and finally switched to AMD and have zero regrets. Getting 400-500 fps in CS2.

870 or x670E would be the only ones I'd look at.

Deal is dead because SD killed the web server. Whatever ancient windows server they have running in a closet somewhere just choked from the traffic.
Don't puff yourself up too much, the closet-PC housing MSI's store is dying because of the 50 series GPUs and the bots trying to scrape them. It's been a shitshow since they launched.

I bought it. Been keeping my eye out for a good deal and this is it. Went for the X870 Gaming Board with the processor and added the M.2 Drive. I wanted USB4. Was about $750 OTD after tax and code. I'm near a MicroCenter and they have the processor priced $50 higher, and the board priced $30 more. Hard drive is $50+ more on Amazon. If MicroCenter put the 9800X3D as part of one of their mobo bundles, I probably would have went that route, but unfortunately they don't.

I haven't kept up on this stuff, why is the 670 $150 more than the 870? Because it has lights on it?

I thought the 870 was the better chipset.

Amazon
$150 - MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi Gaming Motherboard
$380 - AMD Ryzen™ 9 9900X
$530 total
For Gaming9800X3D
  • The 3D V-Cache makes a huge difference in gaming, similar to how the 7800X3D dominated gaming benchmarks over higher-core CPUs.
  • If your focus is on high FPS in esports and AAA games, this is the better choice.
For Productivity & Multitasking9900X
  • With more cores (12C/24T) and higher clock speeds, it will outperform the 9800X3D in video editing, rendering, and heavy multitasking.
  • If you need fast compile times, 3D modeling, or streaming while gaming, go for this one.

It's the same chipset actually. 870 has USB 4.0. So if you need the extra speed on USB, spend the extra money.

Agree from a cost perspective, but I think the 870 Gaming Plus with USB4 and wifi 7 for $50 might be worth the extra money. $50 is $50 tho.

What is the difference between the mainboards? A huge price difference.

  • B650 series (Gaming Plus, PRO B650-S, Tomahawk): Mid-range motherboards with strong gaming features and good WiFi support.
  • X670 series (Gaming Plus, MPG X670E CARBON): Higher-end motherboards offering advanced features like PCIe 5.0, superior cooling, and better support for overclocking, designed for enthusiasts and high-end users. The X670E CARBON is the most premium option, offering additional future-proofing and the best overall performance.
Just depends what are your needs for your system.
