- B650 series (Gaming Plus, PRO B650-S, Tomahawk): Mid-range motherboards with strong gaming features and good WiFi support.
- X670 series (Gaming Plus, MPG X670E CARBON): Higher-end motherboards offering advanced features like PCIe 5.0, superior cooling, and better support for overclocking, designed for enthusiasts and high-end users. The X670E CARBON is the most premium option, offering additional future-proofing and the best overall performance.
Just depends what are your needs for your system.Yeah, I delve into it deeper. It looks like the first board only has two m.2 ports, only one USBC on the front and back. As you go higher the models have three m.2 ports and a total of three USB-C ports.
The top of the line one doesn't seem to make any sense. The third most expensive one sounded good until I started reading reviews where people had some pretty serious issues with it functioning with Wi-Fi. A bunch of weird bugs and errors.
So, now I'm on the fence. I definitely would like to have at least three and I'm m.2 ports.
I also would have gone more in-depth into each one, but there'd be too many lines of text.

Might as well do it now. Never know what the future will hold for pricing and this should hold for awhile.
Thanks, OP
Edit: not sure if student discount applies to already on sale boards but it worked for me on the b850

Unfortunately it looks like the X870 is out of stock as of now. PCIe 5.0 seems nice for some future proofing; is it worth it for an extra ~$90?
Since I'm not in a rush, I'm still waiting for the Micro Center in Santa Clara to open up; not sure what combo to go with to pair with my B580 GPU, however.
I was originally eyeing the 7700X, but for $30 more the 9700X might be worth the upgrade. I also don't know if upgrading to a motherboard with PCIe 5.0 would be worth the extra $ on my setup.
